Connecting internal modem to wall jack

Your modem uses a regular six-foot telephone cable similar to this:

To connect the cable to the modem, follow these steps:

  1. Connect one end of the phone cable into the modem jack on the side of the computer.


NOTE

NOTE:On some models (such as the Inspiron 3500 computer), the modem jack may be located on the back of the computer instead of the side.

  1. Plug the other end of the phone cable into a standard telephone wall jack.
    A correct setup connection from the modem to wall jack looks similar to the following:

To connect the cable to the modem, follow these steps:

  1. Connect one end of the phone cable into the modem adapter for the modem card. This adapter can be attached to the modem card itself, or can plug into it (Line Adapter Module).

  2. Plug the other end of the phone cable into a standard telephone wall jack.

The operating system will need to be configured in order to connect to the Internet.

Depending on the model of Inspiron portable computer, there are two different types of modems that can be installed—internal modems (where the phone jack is on the side of the portable computer), and PCMCIA card modems (where the phone jack is usually on a line adapter module, or LAM).

NOTE:If you need technical assistance for your Internet connection, call your Internet Service Provider (see the documentation your ISP provided for the correct phone number).
