VRTX - 12Gbs SAS Drives and 12th Generation Servers

Note: How to identify the server generation is explained in this article.

For the 13th generation of servers, 12Gb/s SAS Drives were released.

The 12Gb/s SAS drives are supported and validated for use in the VRTX Shared Storage infrastructure to be mapped to 12th and 13th generation blades.

On the 12th generation of servers, the speed of these drives will be reduced to 6Gbs speeds. There is no reduction on 13th generation of servers.

In order to use 12Gbs SAS Drives in the Shared Storage infrastructure (VRTX) , the Back Plane Expander must be updated to Firmware 2.00 or later.
