Create the 2940U2W driver disk from Windows .

NOTE: The instructions below apply to both Windows 98 and Windows NT.

NOTE: The actual interface and selections that you see may vary slightly from the information below, as there have been multiple versions of the ResourceCD released.

To create the driver diskette, perform the following steps:

  1. Insert the ResourceCD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Allow the CD to auto-run.
    NOTE: If the CD does not auto-run, double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop, and then double-click the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive.
  3. If prompted with a Language selection, choose the appropriate language.
  4. Click on the arrow button to continue.
  5. Under the Directory column, click Drivers.
  6. If the message Driver Restoration should only be performed under the supervision of a qualified technician appears, click OK.
  7. Under the OS column, choose the correct operating system (Win98 or WinNT) for your computer.
  8. Under the Description column, click Adaptec AHA-2940U2W SCSI Driver.
  9. On the right hand side of the window, select U2W.EXE.
  10. A WinZip self-extractor dialogue box will appear.
  11. Click the Setup button.
  12. An MS-DOS window will appear.
  13. Place a clean, non write-protected floppy diskette into the floppy drive.
  14. Follow the instructions and the diskette will be created.



Create the 2940U2W driver disk from DOS.

NOTE: This method requires access to the CD-ROM drive in DOS. The instructions below involve temporarily changing your system's boot sequence so that the system can boot to the ResourceCD.

To create the driver diskette, perform the following steps:

  1. Insert your ResourceCD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Reboot the computer.
  3. As the system is rebooting, press the [Delete] key every three seconds until the message Entering Setup appears.
  4. Use the left and right [arrow] keys to navigate to the Boot screen.
  5. Use the up and down [arrow] keys to highlight the First Boot Device line.
  6. Use the [+] and [-] keys to change the setting to ATAPI CD-ROM Drive.
  7. Press the [F10] key and then press [Enter] to save and exit.
  8. The system will reboot to the ResourceCD.
  9. The Windows 98 Startup Menu will appear.
  10. Choose Start computer with CD-ROM support and then press [Enter].
  11. An A:\> prompt will appear.
  12. Listed above the A:\> will be a line indicating your CD-ROM''s designated drive letter, such as DRIVE E: = DRIVER MSCD001 UNIT 0.
  13. Change to that drive letter (E, in this example) by typing E: and pressing [Enter].
  14. The prompt should now read E:\>.
  15. Type CD DRIVERS and press [Enter].
  16. The prompt should now read E:\DRIVERS>.
    If you want the drivers for Windows 98, type CD WIN98 and press [Enter].

    If you want the drivers for Windows NT, type CD WINNT and press [Enter].
  17. Type CD 6499C and press [Enter].
  18. Type MKFLOPPY and press [Enter].
  19. Place a clean, non write-protected floppy diskette into the floppy drive.
  20. Follow the instructions and the diskette will be created.
  21. Once the diskette has been created, remove the diskette, reboot and then follow the same basic steps as above in order to enter System Setup and change the First Boot Device back to its previous setting (usually Removable Devices).
