Issue 2: Edit the System Registry to Work Around the Password Prompt
  1. Click Start and type "Run" in the Search box. Click Run from the program list. In the run window, type "regedt32" to open the Registry Editor.

Always create a backup before modifying the registry. Incorrect registry changes may cause serious issues. Should this occur, restore it by referring to the "Restoring the Registry" help topic in Regedit.exe or the "Restoring a Registry Key" help toipic in Regedt32.exe.

  2. Do one of the following:
    • For 32-bit OS: Go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\PC-CilliNTCorp\CurrentVersion\Misc registry hive.
    • For 64-bit OS: Go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TrendMicro\PC-cillinNTCorp\CurrentVersion\Misc registry hive.

  3. Look for the registry DWORD "Allow Uninstall"
    • If this is present, edit the DWORD and change the value from "0" to "1".
    • If this is not present, create the string:
      1. Right-click Misc. folder and select New > DWORD value.
      2. Create the registry name "Allow Uninstall".
      3. Double-click the new entry and change the value from "0" to "1".

  4. Click OK. You should now be able to uninstall the program without getting any prompt for a password.
