016-504 POP Scan Error on the LCD Panel [ Dell™ 3110cn, 3115cn Printer ]


  1. Cycle power on the Printer.
    1. Turn the printer off.
    2. Wait 10 seconds.
    3. Turn the printer on.
    4. Determine if the issue still occurs.

  2. Ping the Printer.
    You would need the Printer IP Address in order to ping the printer from the computer. If possible use command prompt - ping command.

  3. Determine if the printer is connected (ping was successful).
    • The printer is not connected to the network: Research for " Printer Communication Failure ".
    • Ping was OK and the printer is using a Wired network connection:
      1. Enable Network Scan on the Operator Panel.
        1. When the printer is Ready (Copy, Scan, Fax appears in the LCD), press the Down button until Scan is indicated,
          then press the Select button.
        2. Press the Down button until Scan to Network appears.
          The Scan to Network submenu options will appear.
        3. Press the Right button until Server is indicated, then press the Select button.
        4. Press the Left or Right button to indicate Yes, then press Select button.

      2. Verify That the Network Port Is Set to Wired in the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
        1. Open a Web browser.
        2. Type in the IP address of the printer and click Go. (The printer's web page appears.)
        3. Click the Printer Settings link on the left-side of the list.
        4. Click the Printer Settings tab.
        5. Click the Scan Defaults link.
        6. Change the Network Port default to Wired.
        7. Click Restart Printer to apply new settings.

      3. Register a User in the Embedded Web Server.
        1. Open a Web browser.
        2. Type the IP address of the printer and click Go.
        3. In the printer's Web page, on the left-side menu, click the Address Book link.
        4. The default username is: admin
        5. The default password is: (none, leave blank)
        6. Click OK to open the address book.
        7. Click the Server Address tab, then click the first available unused Create button.
        8. In the Server Address registration form, enter a Name for the registration entry.
        9. Select the Server Type.
        10. Enter the IP-Address of the computer or server where the scan is sent.
        11. Enter the Server Port Number for the computer or server where the scan is sent.
        12. Enter the Login Name for the computer share or the server path, if the system requires data where the scan is sent.
        13. Select the Enable Password checkbox and enter the login password of the computer or server, if the system requires data where the scan is sent.
        14. Enter the Shared folder name in Share Name or Server Path.
        15. Click Apply New Settings to update the printer Address Book.


      4. Create a Shared Folder.
        Locate or create a folder on your computer where you want to send the scanned images. An example of folder name is MyShare and make sure it has Write Permission enabled.


      5. Scan and Send a File Over the Network.
        1. From the 3115cn operator panel, press the Down arrow button until Scan is indicated, then press the Select button.
        2. Press the Down arrow button until Scan to Network is displayed, then press the Left or Right arrow button to select Server or Computer, then press the Select button.
        3. In the registered name list, press the Up or Down arrow button to indicate the selection, then press the Select button to confirm the selection.
        4. Press the Start button to begin the scan and send the file to the designated share or path on your network.


      6. If the same problem still persists, Contact Technical Support.


    • Ping was OK and the printer is using a Wireless network connection:
      1. Verify That the Network Port Is Set to Wireless in the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
        1. Open a Web browser.
        2. Type in the IP address of the printer and click Go. (The printer's web page appears.)
        3. Click the Printer Settings link on the left-side of the list.
        4. Click the Printer Settings tab.
        5. Click the Scan Defaults link.
        6. Change the Network Port default to Wireless.
        7. Click Restart Printer to apply new settings.
