Event ID 55 error: "Event ID 55 Ntfs the File System Structure on the Disk is Corrupt and Unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume 'drive_letter':." appears in the System event log.
1. Ensure the disk controller firmware and drivers are current.
2. Ensure any third-party storage drivers and firmware are up to date.
3. Run chkdsk preferably from a bootable USB key.
This tool can be used to create a USB key. You may also use a DVD to complete these steps. This example will use a USB key.
a. Insert the bootable USB key into a USB port and reboot the server.
b. Press F11 as the server is rebooting to invoke the Boot Manager.
c. Select Boot BIOS Menu, select Hard drive C:, select the USB key and press Enter.
d. Select the correct options and click Next.
e. Select Repair your computer in the lower left portion of the screen.
f. Click Troubleshoot.
g. Click Command Prompt.
h. Type chkdsk /f c: to check the C: disk. It is recommended to repeat this step if chkdsk finds and repairs errors until no additional errors are found.
i. Type c:\windows\system32\shutdown -r -t 0 to reboot the server after chkdsk completes.
4. Run chkdsk from within Windows.
a. Press the Windows Logo+E to open Windows Explorer.
b. Select This PC on the left and scroll down to Devices and drives. Right-click on the 'drive_letter' and choose Properties to open the Windows ('drive_letter') Properties.
c. Click on the Tools tab.
d. Click Check under Error-Checking to open Error Checking.
e. Click Repair drive.
f. Choose Repair on next restart or Restart and repair now to repair the disk.
g. The server will reboot and an option to cancel the chdsk will appear prompting To skip checking, press any key within 10 second(s).
h. Allow chkdsk to continue and repair the disk.
