Dell support for Windows 7 and 8.1 on the Skylake chipset

This article provides the information on "Dell Windows 7 and 8.1 support for Intel Skylake chipset systems".

The Silicon Support policy for Skylake has been extended to 2020.

On January 15, 2016 Microsoft outlined its support policies for new silicon architectures. Since then, Microsoft has received feedback from customers at various stages of planning and deployment of Windows 10 expressing that they would benefit from some additional time to manage these migrations. Based on this feedback, Microsoft just announced a few updates to the Skylake support policy :

  1. To help provide greater flexibility for customers who have longer deployment timeframes to Windows 10, the support period for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 devices on supported Skylake systems will be extended by one year: from July 17, 2017 to July 17, 2018.
  2. Also, after July 2018, all critical Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 security updates will be addressed for supported Skylake systems until extended support ends for Windows 7, January 14, 2020 and Windows 8.1 on January 10, 2023.
This policy update is designed to help organizations such as yours purchase modern hardware with confidence, while continuing to manage their migrations to Windows 10. As you upgrade to Windows 10 on Skylake devices, you can benefit from the latest capabilities that come from modern hardware and software. Further details are available on the TechNet blog.
NOTE: Microsoft originally indicated Skylake support would end in 2017. On March 17, 2016, Microsoft announced they extended this support through July 2018.
