To use the Installation CD to Join to a Wireless Network

There are several ways to join the Dell AIO 966 Internal Network Adapter (INA) to the wireless network. This method uses the printer's installation CD.

Before beginning the installation process:

  • The printer must be fully set up and functional.
  • The internal network adapter must be installed in the printer.
  • A wireless network must be set up and functional.
  • The Dell AIO 966 installation CD is available.
  • A USB 2.0 A/B cable is available.
  • A computer connected to the wireless network is available.
  • The SSID and security settings for the wireless network are available.

Use the Installation CD to Join the Printer to the Wireless Network

  1. Connect the Dell AIO 966 printer to the computer using a USB 2.0 A/B cable.

  2. Insert the Dell AIO 966 Drivers and Utilities CD in the CD or DVD drive to display the Dell Photo AIO Printer 966 Installation window (Figure 1).

  8. Select the wireless network to which the printer will be attached. If the network name is not in the list, select I want to enter a different network name and enter the name in the space provided. Once the correct network is entered or selected, click Next to display the Wireless Security Settings screen (Figure 5).

  9. If the correct network cannot be found, check the router or access point to make sure the wireless network is functional. You may need to cycle the power on the wireless router or access point. The network does not have to broadcast the SSID but must be functional.

  10. Select the type of security the network uses. The available choices are No Security, WEP, and WPA.

If you select WPA as the security type, the Advanced WPA Options button is visible. This button allows you to select WPA2 security instead of WPA. Choosing WPA2 only allows the printer to connect to a wireless network using WPA2 with a pre-shared key and AES encryption. If you are not sure what type of WPA security is being used, leave the Use WPA2 authentication only check box unchecked.

  11. Once the security type has been selected, click Next.

  12. If you selected WEP or WPA security, the Security Information screen appears asking for the WEP or Network Key, (Figure 6) Enter the key and press Next.

  13. When the Apply and Verify Wireless Settings screen appears showing the wireless settings you have chosen, verify the settings are correct, then click Next.

  14. If you want to see the WEP or WPA key, click the Show Key(s) button.

  15. When configuration of the wireless network adapter starts and saves the wireless settings you have selected,
click Next to continue (Figure 7).

  18. Verify the name of the computer you are installing the software on (Figure 8).

  19. You can also add a PIN (personal identification number) so only people who know the PIN can scan documents to your computer. If you do not want this feature, leave the check box unchecked and the PIN blank.

The Dell Printer Usage program sends information about the number of pages printed by the printer before a new cartridge is needed and other usage information. It does not contain any spyware or viruses. You must select either Yes or No before the Finish button becomes available.

  24. Check the I want to be eligible to receive money-saving ..... box if you would like to receive additional marketing information from Dell. The box is checked by default.

The printer software starts to search for applications that work with the Dell AIO 966, such as photo software. This search takes about 5 to 10 minutes.

After the printer software has completed searching for applications, the fax setup software screen appears (Figure 11).
