Troubleshooting the Dell Wireless Docking Station D5000

The following article provides information on "How to troubleshoot the Dell Wireless Docking Station D5000".

There is no video on the monitor attached to the HDMI port on dock
There is no video on the monitor attached to the DisplayPort on dock
The video on the attached monitor is distorted or corrupted
The video on the attached monitor is not display as extended monitor
The audio jacks are not functioning
USB ports are not functioning on docking
External Media USB 3.0 not detected
HDCP content is not able to display on the attached monitor
Displaylink Driver not able to install
The LAN port is not functioning
WiGig Manager not loaded
WiGig connection is not established
Wireless doesn't work since I updated to Windows 10
Poor Dock signal Performance
No dock connection in pre-OS environment
The WPS is not functioning

1. There is no video on the monitor attached to the HDMI port on dock

Make sure the laptop is connected with the Dock. Try to disconnect and reconnect with the Dock.
Make sure the HDMI cable supplied with the panel, is tightly secured to the video port in the laptop.
Check the video cable to ensure all pins in the connectors are straight. If the cable is detachable, try a different HDMI cable.
Make sure the DisplayLink Display Adapter is installed in the device manager.
If your monitor is connected to a Dock, the video output on your laptop may be disabled. Consult your laptop’s user manual or contact your laptop manufacturer for assistance on enabling this feature.

2. There is no video on the monitor attached to the DisplayPort on dock

Make sure the laptop is connected with the Dock. Try to disconnect and reconnect with the Dock.
Make sure the DisplayPort cable supplied with the panel, is tightly secured to the video port in the laptop.
Check the video cable to ensure all pins in the connectors are straight. If the cable is detachable, try a different DisplayPort cable.
If your monitor is connected to a Dock, the video output on your laptop may be disabled. Consult your laptop’s user manual or contact your laptop manufacturer for assistance on enabling this feature.
Make sure the DisplayLink Display Adapter is installed in the device manager.

3. The video on the attached monitor is distorted or corrupted

Make sure the HDMI or Display cable supplied with the panel is tightly secured to the video port in the laptop.
Check the video cable connectors to ensure all pins are straight. If the cable is detachable, try a different HDMI or Display cable.
If your monitor is connected to a Dock, the video output on your laptop may be disabled. Consult your laptop’s user manual or contact your laptop manufacturer for assistance on enabling this feature.
Make sure the DisplayLink Display Adapter is installed in the device manager.

4. The video on the attached monitor is not display as extended monitor

Make sure the laptop is connected with the Dock. Try to disconnect and reconnect with the Dock.
Make sure the HDMI or DisplayPort cable supplied with the panel is tightly secured to the video port in the laptop.
Check the video cable to ensure all pins are straight on the cable connectors. If the cable is detachable, try a different HDMI or DisplayPort cable.
If your monitor is connected to a Dock, the video output on your laptop may be disabled. Consult your laptop’s user manual or contact your laptop manufacturer for assistance on enabling this feature.

5. The audio jacks are not functioning

The most likely cause of audio output problems on the dock is a bad audio-out jack.
First try a reset using the switch on the Dock to make sure it is not a software issue with the dock.
If that fails to resolve the issue, try replacing the audio jack with a known good working device. (i.e. Headphones or speakers.)
If that fails to resolve the issue, try plugging to the audio port on your Notebook with the dock disconnected.
If this fails to resolve the issue, do you get audio from your Notebooks integral speakers, with no device plugged?
By using substitutions, you can work out whether this issue is with your Notebook, the dock or the device you were trying to plug up.

6. USB ports are not functioning on docking

Make sure the laptop is connected with the Dock. Try to disconnect and reconnect again with the Dock.
Check the USB ports. Try plugging the USB device into another one. Occasionally, a USB port may fail to function, changing to another USB port may correct the issue.
Make sure the Fresco Logic Xhci (USB3) Root Hub is enabled in device manager.

7. External Media USB 3.0 not detected

Make sure the laptop is connected with the Dock. Try to disconnect and reconnect again with the Dock.
Check the USB ports. Try plugging the USB device into another one. Occasionally, a USB port may fail to function, changing to another USB port may correct the issue.
Make sure the Fresco Logic Xhci (USB3) Root Hub is enabled in device manager.

8. HDCP content is not able to display on the attached monitor

Wireless dock does not support the HDCP content, because the DisplayLink does not support HDCP.

9. DisplayLink Driver not able to install

Make sure all the devices on the dock will be discovered and that their respective drivers need to be installed in device manager.

10. The LAN port is not functioning

Make sure the Ethernet cable connections are secure at both the hub and the AP.
To resolve a temporary LAN port failure problem, unplug the dock for 20 to 30 seconds and then plug it back in. If this doesn't work, you may need to perform a reset, using the reset button.
Make sure the DiplayLink Ethernet is installed in device manager.
Make sure the Atheros AR815x PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet controller is installed in device manager.

11. WiGig Manager not loaded

Make sure the WiGig Driver has been installed into the laptop before setting up the Wilocity Connection Manager.
Make sure the USB Display Adapters are enabled in device Manager.
Make sure the profile has been created.

12. WiGig connection is not established

Check the WiGig status shows its connected on the Wilocity connection manager.
Make sure the SSID can be detected in the list items of the Wilocity connection Manager. If the dock is not configured, it will appear by the name of UnconfiguredDock.
Make sure the LED colour is green when a WiGig connection is established.

13. Wireless doesn't work since I updated to Windows 10

Have you been unable to connect to your D5000 dock, ever since you agreed to update to Windows 10?
This is because there is an issue with the WiGig driver that is native to the Windows 10 Operating System. It does not support the 1601 Wireless card which is used to connect from your notebook to the D5000 dock.
There are currently no plans by the manufacturer to change the Windows 10 native WiGig driver.
This leaves only two choices:
1. If you need to keep Windows 10 as your operating system, you can find a list of compatible Dell docks on the link below:

14. Poor Dock signal Performance

Make sure no blockage on Dock and laptop.
Make sure the Dock and laptop are in the same room.
Make sure the distance between the Dock and laptop is not over 3m.

15. No dock connection in pre-OS environment

A wireless dock is not support in a pre-OS environment. It needs the following drivers to be installed:
1. QCA Ethernet driver (815x)
2. Fresco USB3 Host controller (FL1100)
3. DisplayLink USB graphics (DL3900)

16. The WPS is not functioning

Check that PIN verification has succeeded for the WPS-enabled device you are connecting to the dock.
Make sure you have not pushed the push-button after disabling the WPS function.
Make sure the WPS LED lights up when you push the WPS button.
