This article contains information on the touchpad experiencing erratic behavior or freezing when the AC adapter or LAN cable is connected on Dell Latitude generation E2 or E3 laptops.
When the AC adapter or a LAN cable is connected to certain Latitude laptops, users may notice that the touchpad experiences erratic behavior or becomes frozen. If an external mouse is connected to the system, the mouse pointer behaves normally. This issue may occur on the following models of the Latitude laptop:

This issue may be related to ground noise coming from the power source. It can be passed to the system from the AC adapter, a LAN connection, or a USB device such as a printer.
As a workaround to resolve the issue, download and install the latest version of the touchpad driver from the following location: Dell Multi-Touch Touchpad Driver.
Once the driver is installed, open the touchpad properties by clicking the icon for the drive in the system tray. Disabling the Gestures setting for the multi-touch properties may allow for better touchpad functionality. If ground noise from the power source is causing the erratic or freezing touchpad behavior, it is recommended this environmental issue is resolved for a more permanent solution.
