Depending on the model of your Dell computer, you may or may not have a backlit keyboard. The easiest way to determine if your device has one is to look at the “F5”, “F6,” “F10", or right arrow key. If none of these keys have an illumination icon printed on it, your computer does not have a backlit keyboard.
To turn on or off your keyboard backlight, press either “F5”, “F6”, “F10”, or the right arrow key. If the keyboard doesn't light up when pressing these keys, press and hold the “Fn” key and press the “Escape” key and then try again. If your keyboard has a backlight, you can enable or disable the feature in BIOS. To do this, turn on or restart the system.
At the Dell logo screen, repeatedly tap the “F2” key to enter the system BIOS. Navigate to “Keyboard” on the left menu. Under “Keyboard illumination”, select between “Disabled”, “Dim”, or “Bright”. When you’ve made your selection, click on “Apply Changes” and then click on “Exit”.
