70 percent of Dell customers don't back up. That's like getting in a car and not putting on a seatbelt. Here's a wake-up call. Three out of five computers today suffer from data loss.
Whether it's your family photos, financial records, or other important files, any data loss can be devastating. Why does Dell care, you ask? Well, we received enough calls to tech support to know that people who aren't backing up need a simpler solution.
So we've created one. Dell DataSafe allows you to back-up your files to a remote storage site using your Internet connection. You get the highest level of protection this way because your files are stored in a remote storage site.
When you can, for example, back up your files to your primary hard drive or a secondary drive either internally in your system or externally, you do not get protection against theft.
You do not get protection against flood, fire, just natural disasters that could take your entire site and you could lose all your data. When you back up your files with DataSafe online your files are transported using standardized encryption algorithms so you know that nobody can look at your data.
And once the data is stored as well, it's completely encrypted and nobody even Dell can look at your data. You have your private key and only you can use to decrypt your data to see what you have.
To take advantage of Dell DataSafe online you go to this link to register, whether you need to back up three, ten, 20 or even 30 gigs of data, DataSafe has a wizard that will walk you through the process.
Once you select what you want to back up and how often you want to back up, just click the back-up button and you're all set. Your initial back-up is usually going to take the longest because you're backing up your entire files and folders and, for example, using 256K broadband connection it could take to back up those 3 gigs approximately one and a half days.
So you want to set that up overnight. Now, after that initial back-up, DataSafe online only records the changes that happen in the subsequent days and all the other back-ups would be very quick.
Now you're saying a day and a half. But, remember, this is just for your first back up and you can always choose to do it overnight while you sleep, or you can even have the service run in the background without disturbing your work.
But my favorite part of Dell DataSafe is how it can also serve as an FTP site. Say you have some pictures that you've saved to your DataSafe account and you want to share them with someone.
You can go in, select what files you want unencrypted and send them to people you select. Cool, right? For more information about Dell Data Safe please visit this link.
