Level of Importance:Optional

Dell recommends the customer review specifics about the update to determine if it applies to your system. The update contains changes that impact only certain configurations, or provides new features that may/may not apply to your environment.

Important Information

For Inspiron 1100, 5100 and 5150 customers who do NOT have a floppy drive OR CDRW drive installed in their computer:
The latest revision of BIOS required significant changes in order to update systems from the Phoenix BIOS to Dell BIOS, and therefore, cannot be upgraded using the floppyless BIOS upgrade procedure. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause in updating your system.
There are several methods in which you can receive this BIOS that may be more suitable to your schedule.
If you have another computer with a CDRW drive, you can download the BIOS upgrade to that computer and create the bootable CD using the ISO image for use on your Inspiron notebook using the CDROM drive.
You may also ask a friend with a CDRW equipped drive to assist you in creating the bootable upgrade CD using the ISO image version.
If you have an associate that has an Inspiron 1100, 5100 or 5150 with a floppy drive, sharing this resource in order to update your system is another alternative.
Most users may find these options a quick and easy way to upgrade to the Dell BIOS. However, if you have no alternative methods, you can contact Dell via the internet address: Email Dell Support.
When required, enter your Service Tag and complete the information form. Next, Choose Problem Category "Update-Software/BIOS". Select your operating system. Then, in the Description of problem field, please type "Requesting Dell BIOS Upgrade CD - P/N 3F752.
Please include your name and shipping address and Dell will send you a bootable BIOS upgrade CD.
Review download instructions from the ISO image download page. The instructions will provide information on the downloading, creation of a CD and upgrading of the BIOS for your Inspiron 1100, 5100 or 5150 system.
