Fixes & Enhancements

Note: To make the DRAC 4 update process more robust and fault-tolerant, the Dell Update Package for DRAC 4 firmware now disables the DRAC's NIC as a part of the update process. The NIC is enabled once update is complete. If the NIC remains disabled for any reason after the update is complete, use the "racadm setniccfg -s" or "racadm setniccfg -d" commands to enable the NIC.

Installation Instructions

Use this utility to create two update diskettes only if the firmware can not be programmed using the above methods. This repair method will reflash the RAC back to default factory settings and will erase all user modified settings.

Instructions to create RAC Update Diskettes:
  ------------------------------------------------------------------------
  1. Download d_[name].exe to a server and double click to execute.
Note: This utility will require 2 formatted diskettes.
  2. Insert the first diskette
  3. Press the Continue button.
  4. When the copy is complete, remove the diskette and insert the second diskette.
  5. Press the Continue button.
  6. When copy is complete, press the Finish button.

Flashing RAC Using Update Utility Diskettes:
  ------------------------------------------------------------------------
  1. Insert the first update diskette into the target system with RAC installed and reboot the system. You are prompted to confirm reflashing the RAC.
  2. After you confirm the update, you are prompted to insert the second update diskette. The RAC Flash update will start automatically, displaying status information on the screen.
  3. After the update has successfully completed, remove the update diskette and reboot the system.

NOTE: This utility reprograms the RAC to preinstalled settings.
All user modified settings will be erased.
If you are upgrading a system and you want to save/restore any
modified RAC configurations, see the racadm getconfig/config
commands in the "Dell Remote Access Controller Racadm Users Guide"
       for instructions.

3. Open a command shell window on the server with the RAC
   hardware and update file.
4. In the command shell, enter the following racadm command.

   racadm fwupdate -p -u -d c:\temp

-p: upload the update file from path specified using -d opt.
-u: update RAC after loading new firmware.
-d: path of firmware update file location. This path should
       not have the filename.

5. After the update completes, the RAC will reset.

Using RAC GUI Firmware Update Interface:
-------------------------------------------------------
1. Download the self extracting zip file to your TFTP
   server.
2. Extract the update files to a public directory on
   your TFTP server.
