Description
Dell Sas6/iRi Blades Firmware Release; Package Version: 00.25.47.00.06.22.03.00
Level of Importance:Recommended
Dell recommends applying this update during your next scheduled update cycle. The update contains feature enhancements or changes that will help keep your system software current and compatible with other system modules (firmware, BIOS, drivers and software).
Important Information
- When viewing SATA physical disk properties from Ctrl-C or other
management applications, Vendor Identification must be translated
as "ATA" followed by blanks. Please see SATA translation
specification, revision 5, pages 24-25 for more details.
- When adding a SAS 6/iR controller to a system, either by physically
adding an adapter or by enabling the integrated SAS controller in
the system BIOS, the new controller may need to be added to the
controller boot order in the SAS 6/iR BIOS configuration Utility.
At POST, hit CTRL-C to enter the utility and verify or modify the
controller boot order.
- Migration of RAID Volumes from SAS 6/iR controllers to PERC6 controllers
is supported only for volumes originally created on SAS 6/iR controllers
running FW revision 00.25.47.00 or later.
- This version of firmware will not ensure complete compatibility with an
older version of the management application.
OpenManage 5.5 or greater is recommended.
- It is recommended that the customer upgrade the management application
and device driver to the latest version available from Dell at the time of
installation of this firmware.
- Before updating the SAS controller firmware using the DUP package in a Linux system, it is necessary to upgrade the SAS controller driver. Executing the SAS controller firmware DUP update while running a native Linux driver may cause the system/data volumes on the SAS controller to become inaccessible or Read-Only.
The recommended steps to update the SAS controller using the firmware DUP package on a Linux system to this new software level are as follows:
1.Upgrade the driver
2.Reboot the system
3.Upgrade the firmware
4.Reboot the system
The problem does not occur if the SAS controller FW is updated from a bootable device (non Linux environment).

Fixes & Enhancements
BIOS - 06.22.03.00
NEW FUNCTIONALITY: None.
DEFECT FIXES:
-Implements a change to allow some RAID1 volumes created with earlier
SAS 6/iR FW revisions to be migrated to controllers with this FW revision.
- Implements a change to order the controller list based on defined
controller type instead of static chip-based references
- Updates verify functionality to allow user to escape once
Reassign All has been selected and drive is no longer responding.
- Removes rescan for devices on any keystroke in view array screen.
Rescan will now only be performed on Alt+N keystroke.
FIRMWARE - 00.25.47.00
NEW FUNCTIONALITY:
- Modifies coercion of RAID volumes to align with PERC. This facilitates
migration of SAS6 RAID volumes to PERC6.
DEFECT FIXES:
-Implements a change to allow some RAID1 volumes created with earlier
SAS 6/iR FW Revisions to be migrated controllers with this FW revision or later.
-Improves robustness in handling Task Management events during heavy IO
-Implements a change to correct an issue with initialization of interposer
attached SATA drives where link to the drive could be left in a state where
it was possible that I/Os could be timed out and have to be retried by
the host.
