Description

The Dell™ PowerEdge™ Updates CD includes the OpenManage™ Server Update Utility (SUU), the repository of system update known good state sets, their associated Dell Update Packages (DUPs), and all related documentation. SUU is a software application designed to identify, view and automatically apply BIOS, driver and firmware updates to your Dell PowerEdge™ servers. It is designed for 1:1 server updates.

Level of Importance:Recommended

Dell recommends applying this update during your next scheduled update cycle. The update contains feature enhancements or changes that will help keep your system software current and compatible with other system modules (firmware, BIOS, drivers and software).

Important Information

Only users with Administrator (Microsoft Windows®) or root (Red Hat® Linux®) user privileges can perform the updates with SUU. After you use SUU to update the new RAID controller firmware discussed in the "Fixes and Enhancements" section and reboot, a consistency check will automatically begin on RAID 5 and 50 virtual disks with 5 or more physical disks to ensure parity information is correct. The consistency check cannot be terminated and will resume at its last point following a reboot. This consistency check will appear as a Background Initialization but will only perform a consistency check with no data being modified. The consistency check runs in the background, allowing the virtual disks to remain accessible during the check. While this background check is designed to minimize performance impact, some degradation in performance may occur until the check is complete, especially under heavy I/O. If you have already updated to the latest firmware version as indicated in the "Fixes and Enhancements" section and have run a consistency check, you do not need to update. The firmware releases on this SUU contain the same firmware version with the addition of an automated, background consistency check.

Fixed an issue that could cause a blue screen or hang when Patrol Read finds a bad block on a RAID array that is configured in a sliced config, which is when 2 or more RAID arrays are created on the same set of physical disks. 3. Fixed possible hang condition, resulting in system lockup and loss of storage access. 4. Resolved a potential blue screen or hang issue in systems with 8GB or more of system memory (where applicable).
