Description

This software contains v2.8.1.7692 Firmware for the PowerEdge 2500/2500SC & PowerVault PV750N PERC 3/Di controller.

Level of Importance:Recommended

Dell recommends applying this update during your next scheduled update cycle. The update contains feature enhancements or changes that will help keep your system software current and compatible with other system modules (firmware, BIOS, drivers and software).

Important Information

Important information about this package =========================================== * This firmware package supports PERC 3/Di in following platforms: -PowerEdge 2500/2500SC, integrated PERC 3/Di, in both non-PAE & PAE configurations -PowerVault 750N, integrated PERC 3/Di, non-PAE only * This firmware REQUIRES minimum System BIOS rev A07 PRIOR to flashing the firmware. Flashing this firmware to the system without first having updated to the above BIOS will render the system inoperable. * Before updating your system to v2.8 level using Update Packages for Windows, please make sure your firmware level is at least v2.6 for your PERC 3/Di controller. * PERC 3/Di on PE2500/2500SC servers or PV750N appliances using legacy firmware levels of 2.1.3 or 2.1.5 will require the following steps to assure a successful manual update to firmware revisions 2.8.x. Steps for manual update from firmware v2.1.X to firmware v2.8.x: To assure a proper update to the PERC 3/Di Windows driver version 2.5 or later, it is necessary to apply the driver 2.1-5 patch prior to updating to the driver version 2.5. Failure to install the driver patch may result in a system hang followed by a blue screen error during the reboot. ***NOTE: This patch file is not included nor is it needed with PERC 3/Di driver versions 2.6, 2.7, or 2.8. The driver upgrade patch is only required on systems using older PERC 3/Di 2.1.x firmware/driver code running Windows 2000. Systems already using version 2.5 can be updated directly to version 2.7.0 or higher without problems. To update to version 2.5: Run the 2.1.x driver patch (p3patch.bat) included with the Windows 2000 2.5 driver download files. Update the Windows 2000 driver to 2.5. Update the firmware to version 2.5 when rebooting the system. To update from version 2.5 to version 2.8.x: Update System BIOS PRIOR to flashing the firmware. Minimum system BIOS required is A07. Update the Windows 2000 driver to 2.8.x. Update the firmware to version 2.8.x when rebooting the system. * known Documentation Error :- PERC3/Di user guide mentions that PERC3Di Controller Supports up to 64 Containers per controller, but it actually supports only 24 containers per Controller.

Fixes & Enhancements

Fixes and Enhancements ========================== 2.8.1 Build 7692 ---------------- -Fixed an issue when one of the drive goes offline and is replaced with the new drive in RAID5 array, rebuild does not kicks off. 2.8.1 Build 6098 ---------------- - fixed an issue which occurs when reconfiguring an array with CLI while array was under stress; can result in kernel panic in Linux. - fixed a bug where a 300GB hard drive could not be assigned as a hot spare for a 300GB R1 using full drive capacities. 2.8.1 Build 6097 ---------------- -fixed a defect which occurs when reconfiguring an array to a size greater than 1.09 terabytes; can result in data loss. –fixed bug where previous firmware did not re-calculate disk capacity when a drive is replaced. 2.8.0 Build 6095 ---------------- -single bit change to turn off flag indicating 64-bit compatibility. Needed to fix OMSS Enclosure support issue with RHEL4. 2.8.0 Build 6092 ---------------- -Background controller cache flush routine modified to flush smaller number of buffers during I/O without impacting RAID throughput. This change fixes driver timeout (manifesting as loss of drive access and filesystem errors like ext3_get_inode_loc errors) seen under certain Linux configurations. 2.8.0 Build 6089 ---------------- -Default changed to 30 Second Timeout for controller BIOS option to pause or continue when RAID configuration is found altered or degraded. This behavior is same as pre v2.8 firmware behavior. 2.8.0 Build 6082 - Initial release of v2.8 firmware --------------------------------------------------- -The ROMB firmware modified eliminating need for separate SCSI driver when channel-B is configured as SCSI. Now only one driver is needed for both RAID/RAID and RAID/SCSI configurations (not applicable to PERC2/QC). -Controller BIOS option added to pause or continue after 30 seconds timeout when RAID configuration is found altered or degraded. -Additional ESM fix for pulled/missing drives. -HIM_PCI_ERR correction to power management interrupt. -Cache flush loop decreased to prevent extensive spin-lock hold during high I/O. -AFU fix to block firmware installation based on proper level System BIOS. -SCSI Passthru Event filtering. -Disallow selection of drive to create raid when already reach maximum limit. -Disable interrupts around doing queue accesses in CompleteFIB( ).
