Important Information
Known Limitations:

In Joined bus/Clustering mode, firmware is downloaded to both EMMs automatically (assuming that the second EMM is installed) by failing over and then failing back. In Split bus mode, however, updating firmware on one EMM does not automatically update the other EMM. Therefore, in order to update both EMMs, the user must download directly through the cable to each EMM.

NOTE: It is strictly prohibited to have an Active/Active cluster while doing firmware downloads to avoid issues with the cluster.

When using Array Manager 3.1.1 (or less) in Clustering mode, EMM firmware can only be upgraded on the primary EMM (the left one when viewing the enclosure from the back). Therefore, in order to update both EMMs, the user must download firmware to each EMM individually.

If the PV22XS is configured with one EMM and one termination module in Joined bus mode, an error message will pop up when upgrading the firmware through Array Manager 3.1.1 (or less). This is an invalid error message in this scenario. If the fans have gone back to normal speed, then the firmware download was successful. To verify this, stop and restart the Disk Management Service. Then you can view the firmware version under the enclosure properties.

Firmware updates to enclosures attached to PERC 2/DC, PERC3/SC/QC/DC/DCL, or any PERC4 array controllers require that Array Manager be at release 3.4 or greater; while PERC 2/QC or PERC 3/Di controllers require that Array Manager be at least 3.5 or greater.

Important Linux Requirements:
"libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3" is required for running this application. If this library is not found on the system, the following error will appear.

./getSystemId: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Collecting inventory...
./PV2XXA00: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

In order to install the missing files, you would need to install "compat-libstdc++-[Y.Y]-2.96.[XXX].i386.rpm" package from Red Hat distribution CD, where "XXX" is the version number of package and "Y.Y" is the release. Install the package as described below.

E.g. on RH9.0 distribution do following:

(Note: for RH9.0 the package to be installed is located on disc 1)

# cd /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS
# rpm -ihv compat-libstdc++-7.3-2.96.118.i386.rpm (e.g. on RH 9.0 distribution)

Fixes & Enhancements
This revision fixes a rare issue with the handling of SCSI bus parity error responses by the EMM. This may result in a SCSI bus reset and cause a pause of several seconds (depending on configuration) in I/O processing. The I/O operation will automatically retry and recover. There is no associated risk of data loss, security, long term reliability or other performance issues.

3. If you do not have a CD drive on your system and need to boot from a memory USB key, you will need to create a bootable USB key using a system that has a CD drive. Boot the CD on the system with the CD drive and select the on-screen menu option to create a bootable USB key. When completed, take the USB key to the system attached to the PV22xS and boot from the USB key. Follow the on-screen instructions to update your PV22xS firmware.
Known limitations:
- USB keys used to save log files must support SCSI emulation and be formatted as a hard drive
- USB keys used to create a bootable USB based utility must support SCSI emulation and be a minimum capacity of 64MB. The USB key will be reformatted by the utility, any data on the disk will be erased.
- USB keyboards behind a KVM may not function. Remove the KVM if it causes problems.
- The command input is case sensitive; a non–affirmative response is taken as a negative response. For example Y/N, any key other than ‘Y’ is taken as a no.
