Description

The Dell Server Deployment Pack is a plug-in that integrates directly into the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (ConfigMgr) console. It enables you to install Dell servers, configure its hardware, and eliminates the need for command-line tools and scripts normally used in the DTK. To configure and deploy your Dell systems, you need to select configuration options and commands on the GUI using drop-down lists and check boxes. This makes your system deployment an easy, automated task.

Dell recommends the customer review specifics about the update to determine if it applies to your system. The update contains changes that impact only certain configurations, or provides new features that may/may not apply to your environment.

Important Information

DSDP 1.2 A02 release consists of only the updated documentation. If you have already upgraded to 1.2 download the latest User's Guide and Readme from support.dell.com\manuals. On the manuals page click Software->Systems Management->Dell Server Deployment Pack for Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager to access the latest documentation. When upgrading from a previous version of this product using Retain Dell Deployment ToolKit (DTK) utilities and Windows PE drivers, existing task sequences that has any Dell hardware configuration custom actions will not be automatically updated. In order for these task sequences to function correctly, each task sequence action that uses one of these custom actions must be opened and edited. For example, add a “.” to the Description and then remove it.This enables the Apply button, which will refresh the properties of the custom action and save any new data or formatting required to function with the new version. When upgrading from a previous version of this product using Remove Dell Deployment ToolKit (DTK) utilities and Windows PE drivers option, Task sequences created in previous versions needs to be updated to get it working again after the upgrade, perform the following steps for each such Task Sequence: 1) Edit the Task Sequence created using Bare Metal Template that were created before upgrade. It will indicate errors by displaying a red-X (missing icon) for "Diskpart clean" step. 2) Select the "Package" by clicking the "Browse" button and select "Dell PowerEdge Custom Reboot Script 1.2" package under "Dell PowerEdge Deployment". Note: Any new task sequence created AFTER the upgrade will work normally. Dell Client Deployment Pack 1.1 installed in Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007–SP2 environments will be uninstalled, when Dell Server Deployment Pack 1.2 is installed on the same system. Tasks and OS images created from Dell Client Deployment Pack should be copied before installing the Dell Server Deployment Pack 1.2. The Dell Client Deployment Pack needs to be re-installed to restore the functionality for deploying client Operating Systems.

Download
1. Click the "Download Now" link to download the file.
2. When the "File Download" window appears, click "Save" to save the file to your hard drive.

Custom Instructions for README_DSDP_1.2_A02.txt:

1) Click "Download now".
The File Download window appears.

2) Click the "Save" button.
The Save As window appears.

3) Select Desktop using the drop-down menu to the right of Save in.

4) Click the "Save" button.
A progress meter moves as the download is completed.

5) If necessary, click "X" in the upper right-hand corner of the Download Progress Window to close it upon completion.

6) Double click the Icon on your desktop for the newly saved file.
The readme window appears.
Custom Instructions for Dell_Server_Deployment_Pack_v1.2_for_ConfigMgr_A02.exe:

Before you proceed, ensure that you are logged in as administrator on 
the system where you want to install the Dell Deployment Pack.
Note: If you are running Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, 
Windows Vista or Windows 7, open the command prompt using the 
"Run As Administrator" option, navigate to the MSI location and
launch it through the command prompt.

Installing Dell Server Deployment Pack for the First Time:
----------------------------------------------------------

Use the following steps if you are installing Dell Server Deployment 
Pack for the first time:

1. Download the 
Dell_Server_Deployment_Pack_v1.2_for_ConfigMgr_Axx.exe
(where xx is the Dell Server Deployment Pack release number).

2. Run the .exe file to extract the content of the self extractable 
zip to a local folder, for example, C:\DSDP. This folder will contain 
the extracted files 
Dell_Server_Deployment_Pack_for_ConfigMgr_1.2_Axx.msi (where xx
is the Dell Server Deployment Pack release number) and 
DTK3.x-WINPE-xx.exe.

3. Run the .msi from the extracted location.

4. The Welcome screen for Dell Server Deployment Pack displays. Click
"Next".

5. The license agreement displays. Accept the license terms after 
reading them, and click "Next".

6. If the ConfigMgr console is running, a message displays that it 
needs to close for the installation to continue. Click "Next" to 
close the ConfigMgr console automatically.

7. The Ready to Install the Program screen displays. Click "Install".

8. The Installing Dell Server Deployment pack for Configuration 
Manager 2007 progress screen displays.

9. The Installation Completed Successfully screen displays. Click 
"Finish".

Dell Server Deployment Pack is installed on your server.

Once the installation is complete, use the Deployment ToolKit
Configuration Wizard to import the DTK3.x-WINPE-xx.exe.


Upgrading Dell Server Deployment Pack to Version 1.2:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Use the following steps to upgrade Dell Server Deployment Pack to 
version 1.2:

1. For information on downloading the .msi, see step 1 to step 3 
under the "Installing Dell Server Deployment Pack for the First 
Time" section.

2. Run the .msi. A message confirming whether you want to upgrade to 
a newer version displays. Click "Yes".

3. The Welcome screen for Dell Server Deployment Pack displays. Click
"Next".

4. The license agreement displays. Accept the license terms after 
reading them, and click "Next".

5. If ConfigMgr console is running, a message displays that it needs 
to close for the installation to continue. Click "Yes" to close the 
ConfigMgr console and proceed with the installation.

6. The Remove/Retain Dell Deployment ToolKit (DTK) utilities and
Windows PE drivers screen displays with the following options:

"Retain Dell Deployment ToolKit (DTK) utilities and Windows PE
drivers" - Select this option to retain the DTK utilities and
Windows PE drivers imported in to ConfigMgr during the
previous installation
