The PV22xS_E16.bin file is the downloadable version of the enclosure firmware that provides management functions for the PowerVault 220S/221S. Fixes & Enhancements
1. Made Firmware more robust by not starving SCSI command processing, recovering from I2C bus hangs, and adding temperature data qualification. Therefore, reducing the occurrence of temperature sensors being in the unknown state and preventing the SES communication failure error messages. 2. Fixed the firmware version when updating in split bus mode. 3. Fixed turning off the alarm from the secondary enclosure when in split bus mode. 4. Fixed fault LED when inserting a drive in slot 0.

Format Description:
This file format consists of an archive of files that may be decompressed to a directory on the hard drive. The installation can then be done from that directory.
Installation (Windows/Netware): 1. Before upgrading the EMM firmware, ensure that all I/O activity is suspended. 2. Download the FUPG_E16.EXE file to a directory on your hard drive. The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable. 3. Double-click the downloaded file to extract the files to a directory on the hard drive. Files downloaded are: ·ReadmeE16.txt - ASCII Text file: Description and download instructions ·PV22xS_E16.bin - Binary file: EMM firmware 4. After the files have been unpacked, you may delete the self-extracting file downloaded in step 1. 5. To update the Enclosure Management Module (EMM) firmware: a. Start Array Manager on the host system by clicking Start-- Programs-- Dell OpenManage Applications-- Array Manager-- Array Manager Console. b. Click Arrays-- PERC Subsystem. c. Click the controller that is linked to the enclosure you wish to upgrade. d. Right-click the enclosure you wish to upgrade and choose Download Firmware. e. Click Browse to locate the PV22xS_E16.bin file. Click Open and Download Firmware. f. When download is finished, a window saying "Firmware Downloaded Successfully" should appear. Click OK.

After the files have been unpacked, you may delete the self-extracting file downloaded in step 1. 5. Move the PV22xS_E16.bin file to your Linux system. 6. To update the Enclosure Management Module (EMM) firmware: a. Download the Dell PowerVault 220S/221S SES Firmware Utility. b. Create a directory on your local filesystem called /usr/local/pv22xs. Type the following command to create the directory: Command: mkdir -p /usr/local/pv22xs c. Download the PV22XS.tgz file and copy it into this directory that you created. d. Uncompress the PV22XS.tgz file using the following command: Command: tar -zxvf PV22XS.tgz Note: This will extract the following files : PV22XS , fwupdat0.pdf, PV22xS_E11 into your directory. e. Change the permissions to "execute" on the binary by typing in the following commands: Commands: cd /usr/local/pv22xs chmod +x PV22XS f. Type PV22XS -x -d on the command line. Where is the full path name to the location of the firmware binary image and is the device to be updated, for example, /dev/sg8. Notes: Type the name of the executable to get help for running the executable.
