Format Description:
This file format consists of an archive of files that may be decompressed to a directory on the hard drive. The installation can then be done from that directory.
Do not place a 39160 in slot 1 of a PowerEdge 6400 or 6450. The GUI will not be able to load properly while using Channel A of a 39160 in slot 1 of a PowerEdge 6400 or 6450. This prevents the installation of NetWare 5.x. To remedy this, place the 39160 in one of the other slots.
To create the driver diskette and install/upgrade the driver, follow the procedure below:
1. Download the 1621NW5.exe to a directory on your hard drive. The file download is a self-extracting executable. 2. Execute the download file and unzip the driver files to a floppy diskette (verify the destination folder is a:\ and press "Unzip").
The following drivers will be provided on the disk: · ADPT160M.HAM for Adaptec Ultra160 SCSI adapters such as the 39160 HBA or the 7899 embedded SCSI ASIC · AIC78U2.HAM for Adaptec Ultra2 adapters such as the 2940U2W HBA or 7890 embedded SCSI ASIC · AHA2940.HAM for Adaptec Ultra adapters such as the 2944UW HBA or 7860 and 7880 embedded SCSI ASICs
There are two methods for installing the Novell NetWare 5.1 drivers:
Fresh Installation of the Driver Follow the instructions in the Novell NetWare Installation Guide to install NetWare on the server. If installing Novell NetWare using the Adaptec Ultra160, Ultra2, or Ultra SCSI adapter as the primary adapter:
1. Boot to the Novell Netware 5.1 Installation CD 2. Follow the instructions on the screen until you reach the Storage Driver Support screen. This screen is used to add, change or delete drivers. 3. Select Storage Adapters on the Storage Driver Support screen. 4. Delete any existing ADPT160M.HAM, AIC78U2.HAM, or AHA2940.HAM drivers. 5. Press "Insert" to add unlisted drivers. Press "Insert" again. A path displays. 6. Insert the driver diskette created above into the floppy drive and press "Enter". 7. The system finds the ADPT160M.HAM driver for Adaptec Ultra160 SCSI adapters, the AIC78U2.HAM for the Ultra2 SCSI adapters, and the AHA2940.HAM for the Ultra SCSI adapters. 8. Return to the Driver Summary screen. Continue the installation.
Adding the Driver to an Existing Installation Follow the instructions to add the 5.1 driver to an existing installation.
1. At the server console prompt, type "NWCONFIG" and press "Enter". 2. The Configuration Options screen displays. Select Driver Options and press "Enter". A window displays. 3. Select Configure Disk, and Storage Device Options. Press "Enter". 4. Select “Select an additional driver”. 5. The Select a Driver screen displays. Press "Insert". 6. Press "F3" to select a new path. 7. Type "A:". Insert the driver diskette created above into the floppy drive and press "Enter". 9. The system will display the driver(s) found on the diskette. 10. Select the appropriate driver(s) from the list and press "Enter".
