Dell's Important Policy Statement on virtual SAN support and certification.

1. Always consult the VMware Compatibility Guide (VCG) for Virtual SAN (VSAN) certification information.
a. Dell and VMware only support Servers, HBA controllers, backplane extenders and drives that are listed in the VCG for the particular version of VSAN you are running.
b. Dell only supports Dell branded Ready Nodes, Dell platforms and Dell components as listed in the VSAN VCG.
2. Dell Strongly recommends using the Dell certified Ready Node configurations, which are validated to provide predictable scalability and performance for your virtual SAN components.
3. Dell will also support build your own VSAN configurations if they are built from Dell branded VSAN certified components.
a. This is an important distinction. For example:Dell does not support VSAN configurations build from off the shelf drives obtained from other channels, even though those drives may be listed in the VCG. Dell only supports Dell branded drives which are listed under the Partner name "Dell" in the VCG. This ensures you are using the Dell validated drives and firmware versions.
4. Dell and VMware support the exact controller driver and firmware versions listed in the VCG.
5. For drives, Dell and VMware support the firmware versions listed in the VCG and later versions. Please consult the Dell support site for the latest recommendations on the minimum firmware required for drives.
