2. While the firmware is updating, please don't turn off the computer.
3. If the firmware utility fails to update, please use the legacy mode instead of the BIOS default SATA configuration.
4. If the firmware utility fails to operate in a secure computing environment, please uninitialize the security application prior to the firmware update. Else, please consult your security application vendor.

Windows based firmware update for ST320LT014-9YK142:
1. Download and unzip JUL2DEM7.zip into your desktop.
2. In JUL2DEM7 folder, please search for the Windows folder.
3. Double click JUL2DEM7.EXE and it will begin to run. On the first screen you will select your language, and then select OK. The next screen is the welcome screen, click Next to proceed. Following up with a warning screen, please read thoroughly and select Next. The next screen is the License Agreement screen. If you agree, choose I accept and then click Next.
4. You will then come to the screen that asks you to close and save all applications and to back up your data. When you are ready to start the firmware update, please check Begin firmware update procedure, and then click Proceed.
5. The computer will reboot and follow up with the HDD firmware update activities. Once the firmware update is complete the system will reboot into Windows.

Usb based firmware update for ST320LT014-9YK142:
1. Download and unzip JUL2DEM7.zip into your desktop. In JUL2DEM7 folder, please search for the Usb folder.
2. Please insert a USB key and execute USB2DEM7.EXE. This will launch the Seagate Linux USB boot maker utility. Click Next to proceed.
3. The next screen is the License Agreement screen. If you agree, choose I accept and then click Next. Following up with a warning screen, please select your desired USB key drive letter. You may backup all your data in your USB key as the Seagate Linux USB boot maker utility will wipe out your USB key. Check This will wipe out to proceed and click Create. Choose Yes to format your USB key.
4. Reboot your computer from the USB key, your computer will now start updating the HDD firmware. Once the firmware update is completed, please any key to continue and this will turn off your computer. Once the computer has been powered down, you can now turn the computer on.
