iSCSI Software Target 3.2 Update 4 (KB980597) With the introduction of the software update in KB954475 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954475) an issue was discovered in the way the iSCSI Software Target handles snapshot flags. After applying this update (KB980597), volumes on locally-mounted LUN snapshots will now be accessible and can be brought online. This applies to Microsoft iSCSI Software Target version 3.2 where a snapshot of an iSCSI LUN was taken using the Microsoft iSCSI Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) Hardware Provider.
After locally-mounting a snapshot on the computer running Windows Storage Server 2008, a snapshot-aware application should use the input and output control (IOCTL) IOCTL_DISK_RESET_SNAPSHOT_INFO to change the snapshot flag to normal and use the Virtual Disk Service (VDS) API IVdsVolume::ClearFlags to clear the hidden, nodefaultdriveletter and shadowcopy flags. This IOCTL is made available in KB955656 and is also part of Service Pack 2. For more information, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955656. Details about the IOCTL are documented on the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) Web site at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc267955.aspx.
This update contains two packages: iscsitarget_patch.msp: Use to patch existing systems without resetting the configuration. iscsitarget.msi: This is a full build of iSCSI Software Target 3.2. Use this in factory images and first-time installations. This update contains all previous updates and can be considered a roll-up.
