The following updates were made to the A22 BIOS to create A23:

Issues Fixed:
1. Fixed issue in which ISA devices could not be manually reconfigured to
use IRQ 10 in Device Manager.
2. Fixed issue in which some bootable CDs do not boot.
3. Fixed issue in which the system may hang or unexpectedly reboot with
Boot Speed set to Compatible and USB Legacy enabled.
4. Improved accuracy of the battery discharge rate reported to ACPI for
purposes of calculating battery time remaining.
5. Fixed issue in which the user may need to suspend touchpad and
trackstick use for several seconds before either device will respond.
6. Fixed issue in which some external serial port devices attached to the
system may detect a break or framing error when the operating system loads.
7. Fixed issue in which certain CD-ROM, DVD and CD-RW drives installed in
the system modular bay may increase the amount of time required to wake
from Standby under Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
8. Fixed issue in which the system may reboot when certain DVD drives are
inserted into the system modular bay after resuming from Standby.
9. Fixed issue in which USB devices may be disabled if multiple devices
on the same bus are reset at the same time.
10. Fixed issue where a Secondary display may not display after a resume
from disk under APM operating systems.
11. Fixed issue seen under APM operating systems in which the system may
hang after resuming from a re-suspend due to entering an incorrect BIOS or
hard disk drive password.
12. Fixed system hang seen when the user suspends the system using the
Sleep Button () then closes the lid and resumes after warm
docking to a docking station with a CRT attached.
13. Fixed problem where PXE booting may not connect to a RIS server.
14. Fixed intermittent issue in which the system may fail to complete POST
with AC power attached and a fully discharged battery installed.
15. Fixed issue seen under Windows NT 4.0 in which a BIOS or hard disk
drive password screen would not be visible during resume from suspend.
16. Fixed issue in which certain USB CF and SmartMedia card readers are
not detected after a cold reboot.

Enhancements:
1. Replaced with as the hotkey used to exit the
One Time Boot Menu screen.
2. The ATI M3 video BIOS has been upgraded to version 4.100.

Floppy Disk Boot to Disk for I40-A23.exe

Download

1. Click Download Now, to download the file.
2. When the File Download window appears, click Save (Windows XP users will click Save) this program to disk and click OK. The Save In:
window appears.
3. From the Save In: field, click the down arrow then click to
select Desktop and click Save. The file will download to your desktop.
4. If the Download Complete window appears, click Close. The file
icon appears on your desktop.

Hard Drive Floppy Disk Creation

1. Get 1 blank, formatted floppy disks.
2. Double-click the new icon (it looks like a floppy diskette) on
the desktop. The Self-Extractor window appears.
3. Click Setup. An black MS-DOS window appears with a message
indicating that you need 1 floppy diskettes.
4. Press the [ENTER] key.
A message appears prompting you to insert a blank floppy diskette.
5. Insert a floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.
6. Press the [ENTER] key. A message appears indicating that all
data on the disk will be erased.
7. Press the [y] key and then press the [ENTER] key.
The files are copied to the floppy diskette. If the procedure requires
more than one diskette, repeat steps 5 – 7 until you reach the end of the diskette set.
8. After all the files have been copied to the last floppy disk,
press the [ENTER] key and the MS-DOS window closes.

Install

1. Insert the first (or the only) disk of the set into the Floppy
drive.
2. Click Start, click Shutdown, click Restart, and then click OK.
Windows XP Users need only click restart.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Important Information:
The Non-packaged format is intended for advanced users
that only require the executable and do not require a bootable self-
extracting disk be created for them. All other users should download the
Floppy format, which creates a bootable self-extracting disk.

Instructions:
This file format consists of a BIOS executable file. To use it, download
the file and copy it to a DOS-bootable diskette. With the diskette in the
floppy drive, reboot the system and run the program.

Download

4. From the Save In drop-down menu, click to select Desktop and then
click Save. The file will download to your desktop.
5. If a Download Complete window appears, click Close. A new icon
appears on your desktop.

Install
1. Double-click the new icon on the desktop labeled A23-I40.exe.
2. The Self-Extracting window appears and prompts you to extract or
unzip to c:\dell\drivers\r52072. If you did not print these instructions,
write down this path.
3. Click Continue.
4. Click OK.
5. A window appears indicating all files were successfully unzipped.
Click OK.
6. The Setup program will start automatically. Select your language
and click OK.
7. Follow the on-screen installation instructions.
