This article provides information about using the Dell Cast device.
1. What model of Venue Tablet works with the Dell Cast device
The Dell Cast device only works with the Venue 7 (3740), Venue 8 (3840, 7840), and Venue 10 (5050) tablet in productivity mode.
The Dell Cast device works with the Venue 7 (3730, 3736 and 3740), Venue 8 (3830, 3840, 7840), and Venue 10 (5050) tablet in mirroring mode.

2. Setting up the Dell Cast Device for Productivity Mode
Using Productivity Mode on a Computer Monitor
Note: It is suggested to start this process with the Monitor that you are going to use, powered off.
- Using the 6ft (2m) USB cable, plug the micro-USB end into the side of the Dell Cast device (marked with a lighting bolt).
- Insert the Dell Cast Device into an HDMI port on the Monitor.
- Change the input setting on the Monitor to the HDMI port. For more information about changing the input setting please refer the manual that came with your Monitor.
- Insert the other end of the 6ft (2m) USB cable into either:
- The power adapter that came with your tablet, and plug the power adapter into an A/C outlet.
- A powered USB hub (one that is A/C powered).
- Depending on your Monitor, it may be possible to use a USB port on the Monitor to power the Dell Cast Device. Refer to your Monitor's Users' Guide.
- Once the Welcome to Dell Cast screen appears, you will be asked to plug in a USB keyboard.
Notes: There is only one USB connector on the end of the Dell Cast device, which means that to use a USB keyboard and USB mouse together, either:
- Connect a powered USB hub (one that is A/C powered) to the Dell Cast device, and use one of the ports to connect the USB keyboard.
- Use a wireless keyboard and mouse combo.
- Connect a USB keyboard with a USB pass-through (USB hub) connector (Some models of keyboards and mice may require more power than the 150 milliamps the Dell Cast provides).
- Once the Dell Cast device recognizes the keyboard, you will be asked to plug in a USB mouse.
Notes: There is only one USB connector on the end of the Dell Cast device, which means that to use a USB keyboard and USB mouse together, either:
- Connect a powered USB hub (one that is powered by A/C) to the Dell Cast device and use one of the ports to connect the USB mouse.
- Use a wireless keyboard and mouse combo.
- Connect a USB keyboard with a USB pass-through (USB hub) connector (Some models of keyboards and mice may require more power than the 150 milliamps the Dell Cast provides).
- Once the Dell Cast device recognizes the mouse, you will be asked to open the Dell Cast application on your tablet.
To open the Dell Cast application on your tablet perform the following steps.
- From the home page, touch the Apps icon in the center of the bottom row to access all your apps (Figure 1).

- Touch the Dell Cast icon, (you may have to swipe to the second page of Apps).
- On the first time using the Dell Cast application, a tutorial comes up. Touch Get Started, then touch Next and touch Next again to go through the tutorial.
- The Dell Cast application starts looking for any Dell Cast devices nearby.
- Locate The Dell Cast ID in the upper-left corner shown on the Monitor.
- When a Dell Cast device is found on the Dell Cast application, touch Connect to the right of the matching ID.
- To disconnect touch Disconnect Dell Cast on the tablet screen.
Using Productivity Mode on a Television
Note: It is suggested to start this process with the Television that you are going to use, powered off.
- Using the 6ft (2m) USB cable, plug the micro-USB end into the side of the Dell Cast device (marked with a lighting bolt).
- Insert the Dell Cast Device into an HDMI port on the Television.
- Change the input setting on the Television to the HDMI port. For more information about changing the input setting, please refer the manual that came with your Television.
- Insert the other end of the 6ft (2m) USB cable into either:
- The power adapter that came with your tablet, and plug the power adapter into an A/C outlet.
- A powered USB hub (one that is A/C powered).
- Depending on your Television, it may be possible to use a USB port on the Television to power the Dell Cast Device. Refer to your Television's Users' Guide.
- Once the Welcome to Dell Cast screen appears, you will be asked to plug in a USB keyboard.

- Touch settings, (you may have to swipe to the second page of Apps).
- Touch the three squares in upper-right hand corner.
- Make sure Enable wireless display is checked.
- On the monitor or television, click settings.
- Using the mouse place the cursor within the name area.
- Use the keyboard to change the Dell Cast adapter name as desired.
- Click the Green circle to save the changes.
