This article provides information on resetting the administrator@vsphere.local password for vCenter Single Sign-On (SSO) 5.5.
Note: If your account is locked out, wait 15 minutes and it will unlock itself
Windows vCenter Server Single Sign-On (SSO) 5.5 Installation :
- Open the command prompt in Windows
- Navigate to the vmdird folder of your installation, typically C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\VMware\CIS\vmdird
- C:\>cd "\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\VMware\CIS\vmdird"
- Execute command : vdcadmintool
- C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\VMware\CIS\vmdird>vdcadmintool
- Choose option #3 to generate new password
- For Account DN, input :
- cn=administrator,cn=users,dc=vsphere,dc=local
- Copy password and save it
- Choose option #0 to exit

Linux SSO Embedded Installation with vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) 5.5 :
- Navigate to the /usr/lib/vmware-vmdir/bin/ folder :
- # cd /usr/lib/vmware-vmdir/bin/
- Execute command : ./vdcadmintool
- Choose option #3 to generate new password
- For Account DN, input :
- cn=administrator,cn=users,dc=vsphere,dc=local
- Copy password and save it
- Choose option #0 to exit
