This article explains how to configure a shared folder for scanning to Windows Server 2003 Operating System

1. Create A Shared Folder

  1. Create a new folder on the computer

    Note: For best results, create the folder directly on the C:/ drive

  2. Share the created folder
    • Right click on the created folder and select Properties
    • Click on the Sharing tab
    • Check the box next to "Share this folder on the network"
    • Click Permissions
    • Ensure that the group Everyone is in the list with all the permission types checked
    • Press OK

2. Add Security Rights To The Shared Folder

Once the shared folder is created and permissions are given, the user(s) trying to access the folder need to have security rights to the folder
  1. Right click on the created folder and select Properties
  2. Click the Security Tab and then click on the Add button
  3. Type the name "everyone" into the large box and click Check Names. "Everyone" will be listed and then select OK
  4. Make sure that "Everyone" is highlighted under Group or User Names and then check Full Control below
  5. Select OK

3. Obtain The IP Address Of The System

Please save the IP address of the system somewhere for reference as it will be used in the printer setup
  1. From the desktop, click on the Start button
  2. Select Run
  3. In the run box type "CMD" and press OK
  4. Once the Command Prompt opens, type: "ipconfig" and press enter
  5. The IP address will then be listed (example:
