PowerEdge M1000e CMC Does Not Log an Event When an EQL PS-M4110 Shuts Down Due to an Over Power/Current Condition

Article Summary: This article provides information on the CMC does not log an event when an EQL PS-M4110 shuts down due to an over power/current condition.

Question

The Dell EqualLogic™ PS-M4110 Blade Array unexpectedly shuts down with no indication of the cause in the Dell PowerEdge M1000e™ Blade Chassis Management Contrller (CMC) log.

Answer

The PS-M4110 is designed to shut down if it experiences an over power/current or an over temperature condition. If the cause of the shutdown is due to an over temperature condition, an over temperature event is logged by the CMC, but if the cause is an over power/current condition, the event is not logged by the CMC.

Currently, this is considered working as designed, and a shutdown due to an over power/current condition is unlikely. Engineering is aware of the issue, and an enhancement is being investigated. If a PS-M4110 unexpectedly shuts down with no indication of the cause in the CMC log, an over power/current condition could be suspect and should be investigated accordingly.
