DD6300のDDOS 7.0.0.7へのアップデート

head swapとは広義で言うとController Upgradeと同じでData Domainのヘッドユニット（データIO処理を行っているユニット）を別のシリーズ（上位機種）に変更することにより、既存のデータを保持したままパフォーマンスアップを図ることを意味し（そのために旧システムから新システムへのデータ移行などが不要になります）、狭義で言うと、ある（既存の）Data Domainの設定情報などを、別の（新しい）Data Domainに移行することを意味しています（※）。

記載して頂いた記述の中では、「All controller upgrade eligible systems (head swap)」という書き方がされているので、前者（広義）を意味していると判断できます。そのために、書かれている内容は「もしもController Upgradeを行い既存のDDxxxxをDD9900 、DD9400 、DD6900にする予定があるのであれば、既存のDDxxxxは必ずDD OS 6.2.0.35にしてからController Upgradeを開始してください」と注意書きがされていると理解できます。

今回mogwさんが実施予定であるのは、DD6300(DDOS 6.2.0.30)からDD6300(DDOS 7.0.0.7)へのアップグレードであり、Controller upgrade (head swap)ではないために、記載して頂いた項目は無視して頂いて結構です。

なお、DDOS 7.0.0.7のリリースノートには以下の記載があるので、mogwさんの環境であれば一度のアップグレードでDDOS 7.0.0.7へとコードバージョンを上げることが可能です（アップグレード後も名称はDD6300のままです）。

DD OS 7.0.0.7 is supported on the following appliances and DDVE versions:
l Series: DD3300, DD6300, DD6800, DD6900, DD9300, DD9400, DD9800, and DD9900
l Virtual Edition versions: DDVE 4.0.

Not all systems running DD OS 6.1.x or DD OS 6.2.x can be upgraded to DD OS 7.0. Only　DD9800, DD9300, DD6800, DD6300, DD3300, and DDVE can be upgraded to DD OS 7.0

Systems that are currently running DD OS 6.2.x or DD OS 6.1.2.40 and higher can upgrade directly to DD OS 7.0.

Solve On-lineという手順書を作成するサイトにおけるUpgrade Procedures > Controller Upgradeを選択すると、最初に言葉の定義が表示されるのですが、そこでController Upgradeとsystem headswapは以下のように説明されています。

Controller Upgrade
A process whereby an older system is upgraded by replacing the head or controller unit with a newer model, leaving the storage in place and intact. Controller upgrades provide a performance or capability upgrade without the requirement to copy data to new storage.

"system headswap"
A DD OS system function used to recover DD OS configuration information from system enclosures. This is used in replacing a failed chassis with the same model controller and as a step within the Controller Upgrade process.
