Dell XPS 15 9550 - Screen distortions, Flicker, Whining Noise, Intel HD 530 graphic driver crashes

Received November 17 2015

DELL XPS 15 9550
Intel I7-6700HQ
16GB Ram
256GB SSD
4K Touch Display

Bios Version - 01.00.07
Intel 530 HD Graphic Driver Version - 20.19.15.4300,A02
Nvidia Driver - 358.91
ChipSet - Chipset_Driver_TKW8X_WN32_10.1.1.11_A01
Microsoft Windows 10 PRO 64BIT [Version 10.0.10586]

Updated all the drivers as recommended by dell support staff on us dell support forums, it just made it worst. Went from constant "noise" - like old tv over the air antenna reception issues to full blown screen flickers. Also have a noise coming from the unit another person was able to capture it and publish on youtube way better than me.

Please see videos below in order to illustrate above mentioned issues better.

Screen distortions are very easily noticeable when looking at area where dark and light part of the image meets.

Please view at 1080p resolution:

Screen flicker;

Please view at 1080p resolution:

Whining noise example video as captured by another user (please adjust volume accordingly in order to hear the noise)

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hi AnetaVon,

Thank you for inquiring.

Firstly, we apologize for the inconvenience.

Did this problem happened after you update the all driver?

If so, please rollback to the system before you update the all driver.

Run system restore, then choose the restore point what you wanted.

If it does not solve the issue, please recommend you directly contact to Tech Support Team.

Feel free to ask me if you have any questions.

Thanks.

Hello,

Thank You for your response.

I did perform system restore back to factory settings by pressing F12 during boot and following the menu to factory system reset:

Windows 10 PRO 64BIT version 10.0.10240

Intel HD 530 driver 10.18.15.4271

Nvidia Driver 353.62

In addition I did run full system diagnostic which is accessible in boot menu and Dell SupportAssist System Scan under windows without any hardware issues detected.

Issue is present even before Windows  and windows drivers are able to load.

Please see both videos below, of boot and inside bios.

Bios video, please watch in 1080p:

Full boot sequence video, please watch in 1080p:

Which would indicate this being an manufacturing / assembly issue, (loose connection?) based on error free system hardware diagnostics in bios and windows. Now notebook has no visual damage or scratch and shipping box is also in near perfect condition. So this would rule out shipping related complication as possible causes for above listed issues. (Pictures of the laptop as well as of the shipping box available upon request)

Thank You,

Hi Anetavon,

Thanks for your response.

I saw third video about screen flicker symptom.

The issue happened at POST( power-on self-test), so I think that your system have some hardware problems.

If you have external monitor to connect your laptop, you can try it and check whether the symptom also appeared.

I recommend you directly to contact to our Service Team, then let our engineer to go through your computer.

You need to replace failure part if XPS 15 have some hardware problems

Thanks.
