Alpha R2, can't connect to 5GHz WiFi

Hi,

I am having difficulty finding and connecting to my 5ghz wifi network as I can't find on the list of available networks.  It doesn't seem to be a router issue as I can connect to the 5ghz network just fine on my mobile and ipad.

Google search pointed me to a similiar issue posted on this forum years ago, but the solution does not appear to be available anymore. https://www.dell.com/community/Alienware-General-Read-Only/Alienware-Alpha-R2-Intel-Wireless-3165-does-not-connect-to-5-GHz/m-p/5580148?search-action-id=353870507830&search-result-uid=5580148

Router information:

TP-Link AC1200 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit VoIP Router

Model No.Archer C5v

Wifi adapter: Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 - drivers updated to latest version 19.51.26.1 dated 29/10/19

trouble shooting tried: going into device manager > Network Adapters > Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165  > properties > Advanced > switching value to 5ghz 802.11a

any help would be appreciated.
