AW3420DW, no sound whether on HDMI or DVI
I've checked that it is selected in audio devices, when I test it shows that it is playing a sound but nothing comes from monitor. My other Dell monitor plays sound fine from the same PC through HDMI. All other functions on the monitor work (lighting controls, input switch, etc).

I think you meant DP, not DVI.
See the online AW3420DW User's Guide page 10. The AW3420DW does not have built-in speakers. You have to connect external powered speakers to the Line-out port.

The Line-Out port stopped working today. This kind of thing happens sometimes and it's stressful.

An easy fix is to use your soundcard output directly. I would recommend that over using the monitor line out.
