Area-51 R5, problem with U.2 drives not being recognized

I purchased and installed 2 SSDPE2ME012T401 intel nvme U.2 drives.The system does not seems to see the drives at all. The do not appear in bios or the operating systems. Does anyone have any experience install U.2 drives?

Hi @freedomfury,

There is no X51 R5, this model goes up to the R3 revision.

On the other hand, U.2 drives are not officially supported. Only M.2. Also, PCIe ports are not attached to storage lanes.

Alienware Area 51 r5 does have the option to purchase u.2 drives and the connectors and ports are on the motherboard. The system comes with the cables U2 SFF-8639 NVME PCIe SSD.

Below are the 2 types of drive options listed when purchasing a new area 51 r5. 2

280GB U.2 PCIe SSD (Boot) Intel Optane 905P

960GB U.2 PCIe NVME SSD

Two 2.5-inch drive bays for SATA solid-state drives or U.2 solid-state drives
The diagram in the manual shows that #22 on the motherboard is "U.2 SSD connector"

@freedomfury,

The original post said X51 R5 not Area 51 R2.
