Area-51 R2, RTX 3080, RTX 3090 Ti compatible?
Is the motherboard for a Alienware Area-51 R2 compatible with RTX 3080 or RTX 3090 Ti from Nvidia? Can the power supply support this? Is this even possible?

1. Now-days, 2.5-inch SATA-3/600 SSD is minimum. A M.2/NVMe SSD is about 5-times faster than any SATA-SSD . Use it for Bootable-C, and it will provide the new speed you are looking for. If your motherboard doesn't have slot, you can install this NVMe PCIe Addin card.
2. Why? Because:
a. Dell typically only includes BIOS microcode to support the Intel processors it originally shipped with during it's run. These select processors are often listed in Dell's literature for the machine (ie, PDF Service Manual).
b. Machine is already 8 years old (ie, pretty old and soon approaching it's intended life-span)
c. I suggest you "baby it" if you plan to keep using it. Remember that if you break something ... Reliable Operation will drop to 90% or lower (basically killing machine forever).
d. This motherboard and cpu was Intel's Enthusiasts-Class solution for the time. Whatever Intel i7 or i9 processor you currently have is fast-and-fine ... and should last you for the life-time of the machine .

User benchmark has validated R2 motherboard w 3080-ti as well as 3090.

no one has yet uploaded benchmark of 3090-ti.
user benchmark does not say if psu is stock or not.

Totally not worth it since you will likely have a CPU bottleneck with a 3090 ti.

Is the motherboard for a Alienware Area 51 R2 (DESKTOP PC) compatible with a 3080 or 3090 gpu from nvidia? Can the power supply support this? Is this even possible? Can this motherboard support anything higher than the GTX 1080

can support RTX 2000 and 3000 series gpu up to 3090 based on user benchmark.

If you upgrade to a 1500 watt PSU ($270 at the BIG auction site) and upgrade your CPU to i7-6950X ($420 at the BIG online retailer) then you could run an RTX 3090Ti . . . but I would not recommend going more that RTX 3080 because of the heat generated by the 3090 series.

I suggest the Nvidia RTX-3080 . Should be best bang for buck at this point.
I would not mess with CPU.
16-32gb ram (2 DIMMs in dual-channel) is fine.
If you are not running NVMe-SSDs (at least for bootable C-Drive), I would correct that first.

I am booting from a Samsung ssd but my motherboard does not have NVMe or M.2 chip slots. At least to my knowledge. Another user above said I could upgrade the cpu, why do you think I shouldn't? See above

At this point after 4 threads and we still do not know what is your current PSU wattage, graphics card or CPU model . . . this make it difficult to discuss "upgrade".

By the time you add a 3080 or 3090ti to that, it makes more sense to just purchase a complete new system. Because even after spending all that money on upgrades, you are stuck with an older platform that by today's platforms is end of life.
In my opinion, unless it is a minor upgrade like some storage or extra ram, these systems are not worth upgrading to the latest available hardware. If you are looking at doing that in my opinion a complete new system is a much better choice and investment.
