Area-51 R6 I/O board to System Board USB cable Pinout help
Hi everyone, i have a bit of a problem. I own a Area-51 R6 that I needed to replace the I/O board. The problem is that while replacing the I/O board my dog happened to get a hold of the USB cable completely ruined it (i know its embarrassing). I have contacted Dell and they have sent me a replacement cable (DP/N 00NX92) but that is not the correct cable because the pin does not match. The original cable part number is (DP/N 0W4J5H) but for some reason i can't find this number anywhere and neither can the dell rep.
If anyone has an Area-51 R6 that could give me the pinout or get me a picture of the plug that plugs into the I/O board USB1 I would greatly appreciate it. I have a cable that I can modify here. Please see pictures
Any help would be greatly appreciate itMotherboard USB1I/O boardCable Dell part number

0NX92 is in the least the initial part# for the R3/R4 mthrbrd's USB header, photo below ...
While we might expect the part#'s to change over time, it's news to me that the USB header &/or cable has changed between R3/R4 & the later R6/R7 mthrbrds
If your USB header looks about the same as this R3 header below then it's a mystery why the 0NX92 cable they sent won't fit ... in what way does the 'pin not match' (pinout?) between 0NX92 & your ate-up W4J5H cable?, is enough of it there to take a pic & do a side-by-side w/what they sent? Otherwise I don;t own your desktop so wait for the specific help u asked for

Thank you for the reply, I found that the new cable pin out was not the same. Luckly i was able to find a picture of the cable for my R6 and was able to get the pins to match.
Also the end of the cable that connects to the I/O header didn't match the pins. One of the pins that was blocked was not the same as the original cable. I was also very surprised that the cable changed so much from one system to the other.
I was able to get it resolved by removing the pins and placing them in the correct order as well as changing the connector

Hi, could you post a picture of the order in which you put the pins, I've got the exact same problem and i can't find anywhere a photo of the cable to match the pinout. Thanks!

I believe the connector is the issue not the pin-out.
9 wires on 10 pin means to me standard Flex Bay USB 2.0.

Re: replacement cable (DP/N 00NX92) but that is not the correct cable because the pin does not match.
the 9 pin connector pinout for MIO front panel and USB are different, but both are industry standard.
the 10 pin connector for motherboard is Dell proprietary.
OP reports Dell cable 0NX92 9 pins do not match USB1 on MIO, implying the 9 pins of this cable actually match the front panel header on MIO. This is confirmed by the Dell descriptions of the two cables.
Both cables are available in stock directly from Dell.

Here is Dell picture of the correct cable 27J7M to connect MIO USB 1 to motherboard USB header.
zoom in
The black 9 pin plug is correct and compatible w USB 9 pin configuration
the black 9 pin front panel connector of cable 0NX92 should look like the following

Yes, that’s the cable that i have. But the problem is that there’s only one white connector on the Motherboard. Instead of two as you can see in one of the pictures. So i need to combine them into one connector but what i dunno is the right order of the pins.

I was wondering why Dell would make such a strange proprietary pair of 10 pin connectors for a single 10 pin socket header on motherboard.
From close up pic, is it true that the top white connector has only 4 pin, and bottom one 5 pin?

from pic of the motherboard 10 pin socket, the socket has keyed slots on each side so that only you can insert a 10 pin connector in only one orientation.
seems you can only install one white connector in the socket. makes me wonder that there is redundancy built in. If you look at usb 9 pinout diagram it has dual digital channel (each 9 pin can be wired to a pair of usb 2.0 ports on front panel). maybe that would explain.

Yes it is a bit strange, and also you can see numbers 1 and 2 at the right side of the header, i assumed that i could use that as guidance for the pins order.(red pins on 1&2, then white pins, and so on) But it didn’t work! Besides the original orientation on the connectors is 10=red 8=white and so on…and that at least illuminates the front Alien logo, which also makes no sense why it is not already lit by the panel cable. So yeah this is very weird stuff.

using all the clues we have, the Dell proprietary 10 pin socket header has one dummy pin for both front panel and usb 1.
using the motherboard silkscreen convention,
you can see pin 2 of front panel is dummy and not wired in cable, c/w standard.
****************************
for USB1, pin 1 is dummy and not wired in cable, c/w standard.
this is also confirmed by the foot print of USB 2 on motherboard.
You can look at your cable white 10 pin connector and discern which pin is not wired to know the key and correct orientation.

Yeah that was my first try, but it did nothing. Haha. I’ll try again maybe i did something wrong the first time.
