Aurora R10, BIOS 2.2.1 update, AGESA 1.0.0.6
Good afternoon everyone,
Just noticed the new 2.2.1 BIOS update for the Aurora R10.
This is the list of fixes :
------------------------------------
Fixes & Enhancements
Fixes:
- Fixed the issue where the BIOS cannot be updated using Dell SupportAssist.
Enhancements:
- Added Dell SupportAssist | Pre-Boot System Performance Check warning message that is displayed while booting after Real Time Clock (RTC) reset.
- Enhanced the stability of the system after installing an XMP device. It is applicable on systems with BIOS versions earlier than 2.2.1.
- Reduced the fan noise when the system is idle.
- Fixed the issue where the BIOS cannot be updated using Dell SupportAssist.

So nothing really interesting, I guess the motherboard will still report itself wrongly to cpuz as a x570. I'll eat the bullet and update it to check the AGESA (we can always dream). Same AGESA, my hopes are down again.
Before :
I ll update my post with the new version.
After update:

You could try, but I don't think you will succeed.
At least not the way I read the change log for the bios files.
Feel free to report back if it worked or not, so we know for future instances if downgrading is still an option or not.

Just remove AWCC. We have MSI Afterburner and Ryzen Master to handle all of the OC controls. I had AWCC issues with the last BIOS, and decided I wasn't going to play the Dell support game anymore.

I tried rolling back the firmware, and @Vanadiel is correct—firmware v2.2.1 can not be flashed to a prior version.
Error that occurs when attempting to flash firmware v2.1.3 over v.2.2.1 via the firmware installer in Windows.

I gave up, if you wanna R10 of AMD 3000 upgrade 5000? you must change your motherboard.

Hi Jayples,
I am having exactly the same issue. I can't get past the boot screen with the Alienware logo.
Were you able to fix the issue by any chance ?

Oh man this is just pathetic.
I'm running the earlier version that fixed my 3466 MHz RAM situation and I don't think I'll change from this ever. My system is humming nicely, I can see all the temps and adjust fan speeds fine in the AWCC app. Right now it's all going great. No way am I risking that for features I don't even need.
Really feel for anyone who's been impacted by this bios update and then found they can't revert to an earlier option either.

Yeah, it's a bummer. I contacted DELL-Cares and they're escalating the issue to the engineering team:
I submitted diagnostics results and version information for the firmware and software that's affected. Here's hoping that the engineering team will quickly respond to this issue.
Anyways, I'll share updates I receive from the support team.
Nice! Glad to hear your memory performance has improved. After that last update I upgraded to a DDR4-3600 memory kit and have seen more stable memory OC performance, too.
Haven't run into any new bugs introduced in a firmware update till this one (v2.2.1). The previous firmware releases (e.g., v2.1.3) were fixing bugs or adding new features, like Resizable BAR support.
That's my usual take on firmware updates, too. There's got to be a compelling need for me to install the update—e.g., a new/updated feature I use a lot or a bug fix for a problem I've been running into. I primarily use the "Quiet" fan profile, and the Quiet fan curve update in release v2.2.1 has been working well—so the update hasn't been all bad for me, at least.

Just an update for those who are experiencing AWCC not displaying CPU info and not being able to apply OC settings, Dell Support private messaged me here and should respond with updates either today or tomorrow.
In the meantime, you can turn off OC profile in AWCC and enable OC profile in BIOS instead. If you do this, AWCC will show OC off, but OC will still be active.
I set both my memory and CPU overclock settings to "Auto" in BIOS, and my memory is running at 3466 MHz as it's supposed to, and my CPU appears to be boosting correctly.

No solution to fix this issue, so dell's technician will intervene tomorrow to change the Motherboard and the ssd. Luckily the pc is new and under warranty. Don't do the update yet.

Thanks for posting the update from tech support. I also got a similar response:
Glad that the BIOS team is aware of this issue, and now I'm wondering if they'll get the fix out in a:
Either way, it's good to hear this issue is being addressed.

So based on this, I'm guessing we should wait to install this update, right?

I contacted Dell Support this AM and they tried the same things, none worked. Then they told me that they'd have to have a tech come out and replace MB and/or factory reset the whole system. I don't think there's anything wrong with the MB either, unless there is and they'll be replacing a lot of them. I think I'll wait it out as well.

“Should I contact anyone at Dell or just wait?”
My OPINION is that you should open a trouble ticket. While Chris M (from Dell) does read and respond to some threads, a trouble ticket puts the issue on the support teams radar. The more the similar issue appears, the more likely that it isn’t as much of a user config issue as it is a systemic issue. I think those get a bit more priority - again my OPINION.
Be safe…
