Aurora R10, BIOS 2.2.6 update, ram max 2667MHz
The most recent 2.2.6 BIOS update on my Aurora R10 seems to have maxed my RAM speed to 2667MHz. I have installed aftermarket Crucial Ballistix 3600MHz. 2x16GB sticks. No XMP profiles in the BIOS change anything.
When I swap to the original OEM stick of ram it goes automatically to 3200MHz. That is what that RAM was rated.
Dell’s solution was to purchase RAM at 3400MHz instead and what I have was compatible. Before the BIOS update it was running at 3400MHz. Buying new RAM can’t possibly be the solution. Any suggestions?

I have a Ryzen 5900. So mine was definitely affected. A very helpful person on reddit helped me out. I just changed the overclock profile to custom and changed it to 1700 MHZ. And just like that the RAM is up to the speed it initially was.
What is utterly amazing to me is that the Alienware/Dell technical support has not the slightest idea of the problem I am describing or how to fix it. Any other place knows how to troubleshoot these PCs better than the premium support I paid for.

If it is an R10 Ryzen 5000, someone else reported the same issue after a bios update.
If you look up the few lasts posts in the big R10 RAM thread on this board you will see it.
It looks like the bios update somehow broke ram compatibility for certain configurations.
I did not think that would be possible given the limited RAM support these systems have to begin with, but it seems the Alienware engineers have managed to do just that.

You can also backflash to what you had before the update to fix if you encounter other issues.

"You can also backflash to what you had before the update to fix if you encounter other issues."
Depends.
Once the BIOS is upgraded to a version later than version 1.0.7, you cannot downgrade the BIOS to version 1.0.7 or earlier.

That's not relevant to his PC (R10 V2) though. The initial release BIOs for the R10 v2 is 2.1.0. The R10 v2 never shipped with 1.0.7. It only shipped with 2.1.0 or later. So he can backflash from the now deleted 2.1.3 back to 2.1.2.

Dell is dreaming again.
Given the past support they are unlikely to get any renewals.
I did update all my R10's Bios to 2.2.6 and the windows to 11 PRO.
Other than that I see no reason to pay for an extension.
Not having any issues and not likely to.

BZZZT invalid data.
Since the older versions are not removed I tried downgrade from 2.2.6
The V2 board is
EPPID = CN 0TYR0X PE10018J01EJA00
This is the error.

I have the R10 V1 using BIOS 1.0.8 and rock solid stability for almost 2 years now... See no reason to update the BIOS as the AGESA is not updated. Also, capsule updates disabled in BIOS to prevent Windows from sneaking in a BIOS update!

I have the R10 with the 5900 and when it auto-updated the BIOS last year to 2.2.1 it bricked the machine. There's threads about my experience so I won't bore you with it.
It took 3 motherboard replacements and a semi-helpful support helpdesk to get it fixed. (they were really good, but unfortunately not supplied with the correct information, so quite rigid in their workflow)
As a result, I have not updated the BIOS since and turned off the auto-update feature to prevent any mishaps. My 1-year support is now past and I'm thinking about a component swap into a bigger, free-breathing case at some point.
Touch wood, the PC is running great and can handle 4K HDR 120Hz on the games I predominantly play (Forza 5 and F1 22), so there's no rush.
I just wish that the BIOS update process was a little more transparent and AW/Dell did a bit more testing on the configurations before releasing new updates. At the time I had my problems, I read a couple of owners had exactly the same problem, so it wasn't exactly unique.

On the aurora R14 ryzen edition I went into the bios and used cpuid to get the timings for gskill ripjawsv 32gbx2 (so 64gb total). I implemented the timings into the bios. It does sometimes mess up where i have to switch back to the original ram and revert bios to defaults and then i just reinstall the gskill ram. Mine is running at 3600.
