Aurora R11, randomly freezing at least once a day

Jump to solution

I've only had my R11 for a month or so, but it is randomly freezing at least once a day. I never had this problem with my Dell Inspiron. Ex: Today, was using an online alarm service to wake me up, and the computer froze. I was able to get taskbar open, and the CPU was only at 58% and the memory was not even near 32GB. I was able to try and sign out, but it was endlessly trying to sight out. Other times, it would completely freeze. Windows and all of my other drivers are up to date. I have run the Dell support diagnostic tools, and it says everything is fine.

Specs:

- Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-10900F CPU @ 2.80GHz 2.81 GHz
- RTX 3070
- 32GB Ram
- 1 TB SSD and 2 TB HD
- Windows 10 Home

Well, just an update. I still haven't had a freeze or any errors, and I have enabled speedshift again for over 24 hours. I think it's safe to say that the culprit indeed is the Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 WiFi adapter. Either there is something wrong with the hardware or there's something wrong with the latest driver, but with it being disabled, I have not had a single problem since. Keeping it disabled has solved the problem for me.

Some other users have reported issues with random freezes on their R11's.

They have found a solution that worked for them by applying the following: R11 freezing

Try uninstalling your wifi driver (network adapters) and reinstalling using the driver posted on the dell support site for your PC.

Thanks again for the information guys. I disabled speed shift in the bios as according to the link the person said it helped resolve the problem. I already had the latest driver from DELL Support Assist for the WIFI. According to Windows Reliability History, it said a hardware error has stopped Windows from running correctly under critical events. I'm going to guess that was related same error in Event Viewer which was reporting the hardware error in my previous post. Anyways, I completely just disable the WIFI network, and I am not seeing that hardware error in Event Viewer since. So, it might be quite possible that the WIFI might be the culprit. I haven't had any freezes yet since 7:45ish am, but I'll guess I'll fund out soon. The system freezes at least once in a 24 hour period of time.

Is this a Killer Nic for Wifi, or a different option?

The name of the WIFI adapter is Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377. It's been over 24 hours now though, and I have not had my computer freeze yet, I haven't had a single error in Windows Reliability Report, and there haven't been any critical errors in Event Viewer. I'll see how this goes for the next couple of days. If all goes well, I'm going to assume it was indeed the Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 adapter causing the problems. However, the steps I have taken so far include disabling the Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 adapter, turning speed shift off, and setting the hard drives not to turn off in the power options.

I would try turning the Wifi adaptor back on and see if that makes a difference.

It sounds like speedshift was causing issues for some others.

Glad you have it solved.
