Aurora R14, Ryzen R9500 Memory stuck at 2133mhz

Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R14

Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R14

Hoping someone has a solution for me. Installed 2x32g 3200mhz corsair vengeance LPX memory sticks right after pulling my new R14 Ryzen R9 out of the box. I booted and everything was fine. Got the typical "Your memory change" on startup and reviewed that my memory was showing 80G and running at 3200mhz in the BIOS and AWCC after booting. My memory was running fine at 3200mhz for 3 days….  I also had 2x32g Corsair vengeance LPX 3600mhz sticks at the house so I decided to try them out to see what speed my memory would run at. After booting my RAM is now running at 2133 as shown the BIOS and in AWCC at 1.2v. My model doesn't have an XMP profile set up in the BIOS menu and my AWCC "Advanced" menu is grayed out, so I'm unable to set my memory back to 3200mhz, as it was running that way before. No luck so far with DELL Tech support, as I feel that I know more about the issue then anyone that I've talked to so far. I also ended up putting the corsair 3200mhz sticks back in my PC to see if anything changed but I'm still running at the default memory speed of 2133. Dell had me go into the BIOS settings, performance management, enable custom config and change my memory speed to 3200mhz. After that the computer wouldn't even boot to the bios menu and was dead at the very start of the boot sequence. They told me I'd need to replace my system and they would send me another one. I was shocked at that suggestion... I ended up pulling out the CMOS battery for 5 min and clearing out their suggested changes I had made to the BIOS settings. After, I was able to boot and I'm typing this message on my R14 now. I don't see a lot of info out there for my R14 aurora Ryzen 9500 set up. Hoping someone can help me here. I've also updated the BIOS to the newest version, 2.8.0 but the problem still persists. Please let me know if I can share any other details. I'm hoping that someone smarter that I can lend a good suggestion to get this resolved. I've listed the details of my set up below. Thanks for taking the time to review this help needed.

80GB (2x8GB) + (2x32gb) is not a supported memory configuration. Install only the 64GB (2x32GB) and, with power disconnected, keep clearing CMOS by removing the CR2032 coin cell battery and holding in the power button for 30 seconds to discharge flea power . . . may take a few iterations.

Does anyone have any ideas why my AWCC advanced menu is grayed out? Is this only available on Intel builds? I've updated the AWCC (uninstall/reinstall) but still no luck. I've seen videos online of people adjusting their memory speeds in the OC settings of AWCC.

Thanks for the reply. I'll give that a shot. Since I won't be running the 8g sticks I'll prob grab two more 36g corsair 3600mhz sticks and run 4x32g 3600hrz (128g). From what I've researched 3600mhz is an optional ram speed for the R9500. Do you think I'll have any issues with that 4x32g 3600mhz set up? They'll be corsair vengeance LPX.

Hi @ProfessorW00d /all - I went through the process described above and after 5 iterations I'm still stuck at the default memory speed of 2133mhz. I'm running the 2x(32g) 3600mhz Corsair LPX sticks in slots 1,3, the same slots that the two 8g 3200mhz Fury sticks were installed in from the default Dell build for a total of 64g. Any other ideas on how I increase my memory speed? My AWCC advanced menu is still grayed out and I don't have an XMP profile in my BIOS set up (BIOS 2.8.0). As I stated above, before putting in the two 3600mhz sticks on Tuesday my system memory was running at 3200mhz with the 2x(32g) Corsair 3200mhz (slots 2/4) and 2x(8g) Fury 3200mhz (slots 1/3) 80g. I installed the Corsair 2x(32g) 3200mhz memory the day my system arrived right after pulling it out of the box and was running fine. As far as I know my setup (motherboard/Processor) can easily handle memory speeds of 3200/3600mhz. Thanks again for taking the time to look this over.  I also tried again to manually set my memory speed to 3600mhz in the bios menu under advanced, power management, custom, but again my system failed to boot and wouldn't even make it into the BIOS menu and I had to pull the CMOS battery again.

Have you disabled Core Isolation in W11. There is a known incompatibility between AWCC and W11 Core Isolation where none of the fan and overclocking settings are available. Try disabling Core Isolation and try AWCC again.

Memory compatibility issues are common. The only guaranteed memory to work is the original OEM memory.

Anything else is hit and miss.

Just make sure you can return them should they not work.

Not a lot of people seem to have an R14, so little information is on these boards about aftermarket memory that works.

Typically Dell uses OEM memory that is called the same as the retail version, but is actually different...

Thanks for the reply. I've tried turning off CORE Isolation and the problem still persists. As well as I don't have access to the advanced menu options for the CPU and RAM in my AWCC... Still searching for a solution.

Thanks @Vanadiel I agree that Corsair isn't on the list from Dell as they only list Kingston. After doing some research after I ordered the R14 there were many sites that suggested that Corsair was a good match for Ryzen R9500x processors. The other thing is that my system was running at 3200mhz with the corsair 3200mhz RAM installed and only reverted to the default of 2133mhz after I put in the corsair 3600mhz sticks. To be safe I ordered 2x(32g) Kinston fury since it's listed on the compatibility page for the R14.

Ordered today: Kingston FURY Beast 64GB (2x32GB) 3600MHz DDR4 CL18 Desktop Memory Kit of 2 KF436C18BBK2/64

@Vanadiel  do you think the Kingston fury I ordered isn't the same as Dell OEM?

No. OEM-Dell-memory (produced by Kingston) is only available from Dell. There is a difference between Kingston aftermarket-memory and Kingston Dell-memory even if they look the same.

Usually it is not. You can try it and see what happens. It will help other users with R14 machines, as not much user experience has been posted on these forums for them.

The best advice is to stick with the OEM memory, unless you are tech savvy and willing to take a chance on retail memory.

Unfortunately these motherboards are not like retail boards, where you can throw in whatever memory brand you like and it just works...

Motherboard swap will not change a thing. 3,600 Mhz is overclocked (XMP) profile, which is supported by the motherboard.

There's only a limited QVL memory list, hence only the OEM memory is guaranteed to work. It does not sound like the retail Kingston Fury is on the list.

I am in almost exact same boat as all of you.

I purchased Aurora r14 Ryzen edition with 16GB DDR4 installed.

Ordered Kingston fury 64GB DDR4 (2 32gb sticks at 3600mhz.) which is on the list of compatible and same brand computer shipped with only difference being shipped memory was 3200. I've been through the whole process of changing speed in bios, no boot, pulled cmos to reset.
Mine is running at 2400mhz though. Honestly, computer is running great it just bugs me it is not performing as advertised memory speeds and I see no way to change in bios other than overclocking which we already know bricks the system. I am scheduled for a technician to come out "when they get parts in" to replace the motherboard but I do not see how this is going to fix anything unless there is a motherboard problem and from reading about all the others with same issue, I doubt that anything is wrong other than Dell's lack of support of XMP in bios.
