Aurora R7, can GeForce RTX 3080 fit in or work?

Can GEFORCE RTX 3080 be fit in or work in my Alienware R7 ?

Processor i7 8700k Water Cooling.

16 GB ram 2666

Right now its 1080 8Gb graphic card.. so is that possible that RTX 3080 will work or not ? Fitting is different issue.

Thanks everyone for the advices in this thread. With some mods to the R7 cases, I have managed to put in a EVGA 3080 Ultra Gaming FTW3. (300mm in length)

It is not perfect though. Now the left cover cannot fully close because of the wires from the GPU power connectors. I might need to look for some ATX 8-pin 180 degree angled adapters. (or just leave it open like that..)

Anyway, I can now run MS2020 in 4K with Ultra setting..

@firebirdhk

That was my concern the HEIGHT of these cards. looks like its not gonna happen. I added a 2080Ti to my R7 fits perfect, but I guess until some of the SFF 3080/3090 cards come out i'll have to hold off. Looks nice in there though

@markburvyou have an R8 we have the R7

Are the cases exactly the same? and if so then I did see that thread some time ago. Looks like you just had to replace the front fan? no cutting?

1. Replace the front fan with a Noctua nf-a12x15-pwm-chromax-black-swap. Done 1 month ago.

That's right, they are the same cases.

No cutting

I do advise adding an upper front fan in the HDD bay to help cool the CPU, the chromax does not come with a Y cable, but get also the NF A12-25PWM, it comes with a Y. Put the upper on the 4wired 4pin and the chromax on the 3wired 4pin.

Hey @22GREEN , still rocking that OLED LG? Does the 30xx series G-sync work well with it?

@markburv

ok thx i'll keep that in mind. But I have the 8700K liquid cooled and temps are always really good even under full load. Right now just surfing the forums.

Any documentation you can share about taking off the front bezel? you mentioned  - maintenance doc from dells website. I believe its in the manual also. Looks like you had to use some zip ties to secure it.

I'll bookmark that link to the fan also.

@22GREEN

Very nice temps what cooler? H60?

Just remember those temps will suffer if you replace a "blower" type GPU with an air-cooled "non-blower"

@GTS81 Nice to see you join in

Yea man its soo nice. Just started playing Outlast 2 on it. G-SYNC works great. Everything is super smooth and crisp. Looks like from what markburv did in his R8 it will work just fine. Just need to replace that front fan. I haven't checked to see if the 30xx's are even still available. I would have to take a hit and sell my 2080Ti, and hopefully get $500/$600 for it. Other users from the AVSForum (C9 thread)I frequent that have upgraded to the 30xx series with the OLEDS have been having some issues, (bad flickering, no signal, some color patterns jacked up, etc ) so there is till some kinks to work out. LG did release a newer FW for when people started mentioning the issues. At this point I don't see a huge advantage to upgrade except getting 120hz at 4k I can only rock at 4k 60Hz for now. I can live with it lol

Its just the stock cooler that came with the R7. I haven't made any modification just sold the 1080Ti and popped in the 2080Ti Yea I' would try and stay with fan/non blower card. I think the temps are lower because my rig is downstairs where its cooler and I like the cold actually lol. I even open the windows sometimes like yesterday at 29 degrees. Its nice and toasty though.

@22GREEN The 2080ti is a great card. If you have no reasons to upgrade, take your time.

I waited from September after seeing lots of negativity on the net. But then I came across the EVGA announcement of solving the capacitor problem.I saw @eastsider2 here post about his EVGA 3090 FTW install and his success. When you see a few great reviews spread out from sites you can trust, I took that leap of calculated faith and jumped on a EVGA card, waited 1 month for it to arrive.

I have had some screen blanking problems now and then, nothing I could not resolve personally by fixing the right video settings for my monitor S3220DGF. I even had them again on my new rig. Fixed it easily again.

I am personally convinced that it should be ok, I am not sure others would be as confident, I have built PCs since 1990.

Hi,

I got the same 2080ti rn, was planning to upgrade to gigabyte 3080 extreme. Were you be able to fit a 3080 in your aurora r7?

thanks

I have a 8700 aurora r7 liquid cooled.  I bought a 3080ti founders edition, removed the front fan and bracket.  Replaced with the noctua slim fan discussed using 3m double sided tape mentioned as well. It can get a little bit louder than the previous 1080ti set up, but that’s to be expected, using more power, giving off more heat.
