Aurora R9, RTX 3070, compatible?

Question

Hi, I currently have an alienware Aurora R9 with the 1660 that came with the pc when I first received it. I am looking to upgrade the graphics card, but I do not know that is compatible or what will fit into the case. Does anyone know what my options are as far as replacing the graphics card, and if the new 3070 will work in my PC. Thanks!

These photos of the Asus are fantastic!

I'm aware that the graphics card needs to be 10.7" (270mm) or shorter. I also measured the width from the PCI slot to the triangular steel support (for the PSU swing arm), which is only ~5.4" or so. I'm glad that this 5.31" (135mm)-wide graphics card actually fits right in.

Interestingly you are running the Asus graphics card without the factory plastic hinge. Does the gap under the swing arm allow a couple of screws to hold an upHere GPU brace (or the likes)?

Plastic hinge is custom made and will not work with ASUS GPU. Only 2 small screws on the rear slide. The GPU holds solidly. In my opinion, the plastic hinge is not necessary. The installation was done easily and quickly in complete safety. The Alienware R9 has just completely changed the game. The GPU ASUS DUAL 3070 effective Speed pulls 40% more than the RTX 2070 SUPER.

You are our champion, and I can arguably say that your Asus Dual-Fan 3070 is arguably the best Nvidia 30-series board for our Aurora. Many GPU board competitors' offer is just too wide, necessitating some cutting.

Do you mind me ask, if the 3070 is causing your CPU to run significantly hotter? A couple of my acquaintances switched to RTX 3080 while also upgrading to faster refresh rate monitors, increasing the FPS cap from 60 to 144 and 240 MHz. And their CPUs are running really hot now.

(I'm considering maybe upgrading to a 120 MHz or 144 MHz BFGD along with a RTX 30-series. I will keep my eyes open on others with similar upgrades. If the CPU can't take it, it would be a no-go. If the GPU is too hot, I will have to look into liquid-cooled GPU boards.)

I only play flight simulator 2020. My settings are ultra in 4K. My screen is: LG OLED 48CXPUB 4K - 120Hz - HDR. GPU runs at 78% at a temperature of 67 °C. BTW if ever the budget... @Ted Fisher I have an R8 with 850w, now running a RTX 3080 GPU, 320 Watts. PSU has no problems. Nvidia recommend 650W PSU min for 3070 and 750W min for 3080.

As to @AuroraHasManyFans thoughts on CPUs running hot, I have said it before, get more airflow in the upper half, hot air from the GPU inside the case going up thru the radiator/heatsink will not cool your CPU much.
