x51 r3 power light on dim wont start up

Good morning everyone i was just wondering if anyone could help.

I was on my computer last night gaming and then my computer just switched off without warning.

I have tried to reboot but all i get now is the Dim power light.

Can anyone help, i have a lot of work on my computer which i do not want to lose.

I would suspect the power supply.  Sadly, the only real way to "test" a power supply is to replace it with a known good power supply.  There are power supply "testers" and they will test for voltages but do not test under load and a power supply may test good with no load and fail under load.

Are you familiar working inside computers? If not, it might be time for a qualified computer technician. I say that because things can go from bad-to-worse right about now.

At this point, your data files are likely still (barely) recoverable. Your next actions will determine if you get them back or if they are gone forever.

After you get past this event, I suggest you start making backups.

you may or may not have a power supply issue.  I had that exact same symptom in a dell t7500 server.  Swapping power supplies (and every other part except the processor) didn't make the problem go away.
