Adding a MSata SSD to Alienware 14 – What to know before?
Hello All, I am planning to add a Crucial M550 256GB mSATA Internal SSD (Part Number: CT4819530) to my aliwenware 14 with the following configuration. i7-4700MQ 16GB RAM, 750GB HDD Windows 7 Home Premium 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M I am confident that I can install this and use it as the boot drive and then use the 750HD for storage. I just have a few questions that I would like for people to chime in on. 1. Do I need to change anything in the bios other than the boot order? 2. Should I wipe the 750 HD completely once everything is working or leave the operating system on it? 3. Will installing the OS and drivers DVDs that came with the system put it back to the correct factory settings or will I need to download anything extra? This is all I can think of for now. Thanks for all the help.

Well, IDE is an old-school compatibility mode.
If not doing any real RAID (or Intel SSD caching) ... I would set it to AHCI.
In that case, you can also skip Intel-RST SATA drivers (and use Microsoft supplied ones). Not talking about Intel Chipset here ... you still need those and they should be first real driver installed.
