Alienspawn USB recovery and Winload.exe error

OK, long story short - I have an Alienware M17X R3 notebook. Blu Ray drive failed months ago and will not read any disks. They machine would not boot into Windows 7, it would not boot into Safe Mode and it would not boot into the Windows RE so that I could access the recovery options and do a factory restore.

The HDD is fine, it has been fully tested using manufacturer's diagnostic tools and other tools - SMART is fine, surface is fine, everything I can throw at it tests as fine.

I tried to restore the factory images from the recovery partition using the Imagex tool - this resulted in the extraction getting to 100% before flagging up a resource error.

I then decided to wipe the OS partition, reinstall an OEM version of Windows 7 64Bit SP1 and then installed AlienSpawn, I first attempted to use AlienSpawn to do a factory restore from the recovery partition, but all it does is boot to the the Windows RE, which does not have the Alienspawn recovery option. So then I created a Recovery USB Drive using AlienSpawn, which basically copied over the entire recovery partition to the USB stick, and this was reported as having been completed successfully by AlienSpawn.

This is where I am now stuck.

When I boot to the USB Drive, I get the "Windows is loading files " message with the white line, then I get the Windows Boot Manager black screen with the following error message:

File: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe

Status: 0xC0000001

Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt

Tempted to rebuild the MBR and BCD using the bootrec command in the Windows RE, but really don't want to be buggering about with it, especially as it is a Dell build.

Any ideas? Solutions?

Hi DocStone74,

This seems to be an issue with the recovery partition, so please send me the system service tag or express service code through a private chat, so that I can help you further.

Click on my username select start conversation and send me the details.

OK, on the USB drive I have a file called "bcdinfo.txt" and it contains the following:

The boot configuration data store could not be opened.

The requested system device could not be found.

Could anyone tell me what files and folders the root directory of the recovery partition should contain?

Service tag sent.

Ran through the Alienspawn backup process again, just in case it was a faulty build but same issue.

See my Favorite Thread #1. Restore machine like YouTube video if you can. If not, clean install Windows 7, drivers, and basic apps.

Create a Partition Image via Windows Image Backup, Acronis (what I trust), or other dependable 3rd party tool.
