Alienware 15 R2 Alienware Software and Windows 10 Creators Update

My Alienware 15 R2 Alienware AlienFX Control Panel and Dell Support Assistant are not working or opening after Windows 10 Creators update was installed; installed yesterday without any installation issues.

My 15 R2 works perfectly fine in other areas and programs, other than the two mentioned issues in the first line.

Does anyone know when/if Dell is going to publish updates/downloads to accommodate W10C and it's proprietary software programs?

Thanks.

What version of Alienware Command Center are you running?

Have you tried uninstalling it, rebooting, and installing the currently posted latest version for your Alienware laptop from support.dell.com ?

Thanks.

Good idea.

Lets wait for an update. Thanks for the heads-up.

Hi,

I am also having the same problem, since upgrading to Windows 10 Foundation, my Alienware Command Center will not open.  I click on the Command Center Icon and nothing happens. I tried reinstalling the command Center software, and although it did re-install ok, the Command Center will not open. I tried setting admin rights to it and also tried compatability settings, nothing worked.  Lets hope there is a fix soon.

1. Good work testing install with "Compatibility Settings". I still had a small hope that would work.

2. Agreed.

I'm using an R5 and I have the same issue, still no update. We have to keep waiting from the looks of it.

I just rolled-back/reset my 15 R2 back to Win10, reloaded my 3rd-party apps and Win10 Anniversary update.  Everything working now.

I'm not going to install Creators until Dell/Alienware load update for it... Which by looking at the manual ones, they have slowed down with them for some odd reason unless this indicates they are working on them?

Good news for you that you could roll back, Im not in that position    It would be interesting to know why Creators is causing issues with Alienware control panel, touch wood it seems to be the only software its having issue with out of everything I have installed

I was using Alienware Command Center v4.6.20 on Windows 1607 (factory install of Aurora R6) and recently upgraded to Windows 1703 through the upgrade route.

A couple weeks back, after upgrading to 1703 Creators Update, I experienced the same problem with Alienware Command Center which includes not being able to open it for AlienFX and ThermalControl management.

Uninstall and Re-install the software did not work for me as I probably was unable to do a proper clean uninstall. I did not want to go "MacGyver" on it by manually cleaning up registry entries, folders and files relating to Alienware Command Center that the uninstall program did not do.

So, yesterday, I decided to do a clean install of Windows 1703 Creators Update and when I installed Alienware Command Center v4.6.20, it worked perfectly.

So, the solution that worked for me is to do a clean install of the OS to make Alienware Command Center work properly again.

I am glad it's working for you, I just don't want to go through the heart

ache of a clean install!

UPDATES:

After the base clean install with Alienware Command Center with everything working, I finalised by installing various 3rd party software that I use, and Hello!, the Alienware Command Center failed to initialise properly again.

So, don't bother to do a clean install at this point. It only works properly before getting into trouble with certain 3rd party software / update.

I am not too sure which software or updates has created the conflict with Alienware Command Center, so will have to wait for Dell's update which hopefully is more robust in the Creators Update environment.

UPDATES #2:

By some dumb luck, I figured out my problem.

With Windows 10 1703 Creators Update AND MSI Afterburner (v4.3.0 with its RivaTuner Statistics Server) loaded, the Alienware Command Center will not initialise properly.

You don't have to uninstall MSI Afterburner or RivaTuner, just make sure they are not loaded (or close them) and the Alienware Command Center work properly again with Windows 10 Creators Update.

I'll probably live without MSI Afterburner switched on all the time, until the next updates.

Well found! I investigate further and the issue is related to rivatuner.

If you add command center.exe to the profile list of rival and set

application detection level to none.....all fixed!! Great job!

Nice one, markread76.

Adding the exception for CommandCenter.exe on RivaTuner fixed my problem to open the Alienware Command Center whilst having MSI Afterburner with RivaTuner still switched on.

I had to add ThermalController.exe also the same way to make mine work for Thermal Controller portion.

Thanks for the troubleshooting.
