Alienware Area-51 ALX Intel A10 XMP profile doesn't work with DDR3 1600 MHz
I have purchased three Kingston 8 GB RAM DDR3 1600 MHz 240 pin DIMM which totals up to 24 GB RAM and installed them in my desktop computer. When I turned on and the message appeared saying:
The MCH is operating with DDR3-1333MHz
Warning!!! The previous overclocking had failed, and system will restore its default setting. Press F1 to continue..., F2 to enter Setup Menu
When I access the BIOS (A10 version) setting, I disabled XMP and then it went through just fine after rebooting. However, do I need to have XMP enable at all times? How can configure the XMP profile from 1333MHz to 1600MHz?
What bothers me is that I had three old Kingston 4 GB RAM DDR3 1600 MHz 240 pin DIMM which totals up to 12 GB RAM and the XMP was working just fine with them before even though they were 1600 MHz.
The type of computer I have is:
Alienware Area-51 ALX
Intel Core i7 980 Extreme 6C with 12 MB Cache
Windows 7 Ultimate
Please help me out to resolve this issue. Thank you.

And I surely don't have the answer, but I'll remind you of these points:
1. I think you can manually set anything XMP can set (but with more control).
2. Machines often require memory to be slowed down when you are near max capacity. Look at Service Manuals.
3. Area-51 was never tested or even allow 8gb DIMMs. You are in new territory.
4. If you really need 24gb, (and it works at 1333) then the 267 speed drop is insignificant.

Turn off xmp profile in the bios, manually set multiplier to 12, (133x12=1600mhz).
At your own risk, navigate bios to "uncore volts", bump uncore volts incrementally (as much as +200mv if need be) ... it might get them to boot. The MSI board is rated fo 12gb max (3x4gb), not 24gb (3x8gb). That's probably why ... too much ram, lol. bump uncore at your risk ...

Thanks so much for your help. Actually everything is working perfectly after I disabled the XMP and manually set the DRAM in the BIOS setting. Then it ran smoothly and I've been monitoring for any impacts. So far it is running like a smooth ride :)

I'm sure I know the answer, but publish what your manual DRAM settings were after you disabled XMP in the bios, in order to run 24Gb (3x8Gb) @1600MHz in the stock Alienware Area51 mthrbrd ... so others can be sure to follow :)
