Alienware M17x R4 - 1 repeating beep at POST

Hi All,

1 year old M17x R4 wont boot (Fails POST).

Problem started 1 month ago.
Wouldnt boot with 1 repeating beep (1 beep every 3 seconds),
No LCD output,
Keyboard lit with prevoius sessions lighting config,
Fan spin for 1 sec,
HDD activity lights (eyes) lit until beeping starts, then off.

Until now, holding the power button for 4 sec to power off, then turn on again would (temporarily) fix the issue, however now the issue remains regardless of what I do.
So she is dead. :(

I read somewhere this could be a system board/BIOS fault, :(

Is there anything I can do, or is this a return for repairs case?

Thanks in advance..

Hi Shex82,

You are correct, 1 beep means System Board/BIOS error, click here for the Alienware Beep Code Table. You can try this:

1. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove all peripherals.

2. Remove the Battery

3. Hold the power button down for 30 seconds.

4. Remove the CMOS battery (leave it out for 10 seconds)

5. Put everything back in and test the computer.

Let me know how it goes please.

Hi Natalia,

I had tried most of what you suggested already except for the CMOS Battery Removal.

I just re-tried all of your steps to confirm and the system remains the same. 1 beep.

Turns out there is a few "Known" Issues with the BIOS in this model. Sad that it only took around 100 hrs use to fail.

Its going back for a new system board today.

Cheers

Hello shex82!

On that case I will recommend you to send the system to our repair facilities so they can check it out and replace the motherboard if needed, these repair will be covered if you are under warranty, so send me a Private message with your service tag and I’ll check it out.
