Now it doesnt turn on with the charger plugged in but runs perfectly fine on battery

Hi phakphum1234,

Thank you for the trouble shooting steps tried to resolve the issue.

Please check if the Ac adapter is detected in the BIOS. Tap F2 at startup to open the BIOS screen. Check if the system turns on with a known good Ac adapter.
Also follow the steps shown in the link below:

RE: Alienware m17x R4 turning off/not turning on when charger is plugged in.

Hi Sujatha K,

The laptop does detect a 240 watt ac adapter but still does not turn on with the charger plugged in.

It does sometimes stay on when turned on without the charger but have the charger plugged in sometime later after boot up has

completed. I recently turned off some ( 4-6?) windows processes before it had charging issues, could that have been the case?

Thanks in advance

Hi phakphum1234,

Since the Ac adapter is detected in the BIOS, it is not the adapter issue. Please perform Flee power as suggested in the link earlier. Also run complete Windows update and restart the system. Revert with the status.

RE: Alienware m17x R4 turning off/not turning on when charger is plugged in.

Hi phakphum1234,

To flee power, shut the system down, remove the battery and disconnect the ac adapter, press and hold the power button for 20 to 30 seconds. Now connect only the ac adapter and wait for 30 seconds and turn on the system. This will drain any residual charge in the capacitors.

If the windows is up to date, you don’t have to run Windows update once again.

I am having the same issue, Spoke to Dell they are going to send me a new adapter. I have to keep taking out the ac adapter and plugging it back in for it a get a little charge before it goes out again. Got the Alienware in December. Shouldn't be having this issue already.
