Area 51-R2, 64GB Memory Support?

I see that the manual says the limitation is 32gb but everything I'm reading regarding the chipset and processor is that it should support 64gb.  Has anyone successfully upgraded to 64gb?

Bios A10, same issue (freezing at login screen), Crucial 64GB Kit, 2400mhz, solved by disabling MSICPU_CC.

Thanks!

Liky,

This thread is about the Area-51 R2, and its ability to support 64GB. That's the title, even.

If you have a question that isn't related to that, please start a different thread.

Thanks,

Jacob

I was joking because I dont see why all the people here need so much ram

I use 64 GB, so that I can run 15 Virtual Machines crunching RNA World VirtualBox VMs (that take 3 GB each), to do DNA analysis and genome marking, to better humanity.

Hi there.  What is the model number of the Corsair dominator ram that you got?  Was it CMD64GX4M4A2666C15

To report a successful upgrade for BIOS A11 to 64 GB running at 2666 MHz: Corsair Dominator Platinum CMD64GX4M4C3000C15. I made sure all the RAM sticks have LED lights on after which the A11 BIOS reported a change. I then booted up with defaults into Windows 10 Creative Edition and rebooted again into BIOS to set the RAM clock in the OC section to 2666 MHz. I've also enabled the XMP 2.0 profile. All is working well with these settings.

ahhh. Windows 10

I know u didn't say 4.8.23, but the latest 4.8.23 versions are (were) for R3/R4, I did not expect any more software support for R2 & assumed the R3/R4 version installed for you - if so - great, test it out would've been the advice; I went to R2 support page b4 posting, but only checked the W7 version which is cmndCntr 4.0x as default when u land there > had I checked on 10 also, I would've seen the new download & wouldn't have said anything except maybe thanks for the head's up

4.8.25 now available for my R2, lovely

I saw that an updated version of Alienware Command Center is available for my Area 51-R2.
The new version is 4.8.25.0

However, when I installed it on my PC (which has 64 GB), I again encountered the problem where Windows 10 x64 freezes immediately on the lock screen.

Again, the workaround of:
- Boot into Safe Mode

- Open Computer Management

- Click Services

- Double click the "MSICPU_CC" service

- Change its "Startup type" to "Disabled"

.... prevents the freezing.

I would have thought Dell would have fixed this by now, but I guess not. Oh well. Hopefully someone else out there finds this workaround useful.

Thanks,

Jacob Klein

I didn't cheat.

Alienware Command Center v4.8.25.0 (I never said 4.8.23) .... is legitly available, for Area 51-R2 PCs like mine, from the Dell Support site. As I said. And the installer installed fine. Just had to reapply my MSICPU_CC disabling workaround again.

I recall trying some version a few months back, that was for the R4, but it wouldn't install on my R2.

4.8.25.0 does install fine on my R2.

4.8.23? That's for the x299 51 R4, you cheated a lil' > (=

interesting it allowed you to install it, may be a sign that R4 has the same FIO board ... keep an eye on it for compatibility, & an overclocking app with it?, proceed with caution > report back if u have issues ... ... ...
